"Not Your Concern" as written by and Scott Michael/preven Cutler....
Shackles and chains get in the way and I'm lost in the gardener's gate
Where everything grows but no one should go where I've gone.
I won't come back

How can you dream in the doorway without ever going in?
How can you dream in the doorway...
Without making excuses (and drawing conclusions) you're at it again.
I am not your concern the world will still turn

When I'm not around
Rely on me and you'll fall... Backs up to the wall
Someone let me out

It's all sinkin' in, I'd probably just swim if I could but I can't so
I'm just hangin' on and on...
Just let me go you know it won't be long... Before the lights are out

How can you dream in the doorway without ever going in?
How can you dream in the doorway...
Without making excuses (and drawing conclusions) you're at it again.
I am not your concern the world will still turn

When I'm not around
Rely on me and you'll fall... Backs up to the wall
Someone let me out

With no intention of consoling you
I was controlling you
I'm letting go of you
I'm letting go of you
I am not your concern the world will still turn

When I'm not around
Rely on me and you'll fall... Backs up to the wall
Someone let me out
Someone let me out
I... I... I am not your concern the world will still turn
When I'm not around

General Commentit seems like this song has multiple meanings

one seems like he had a bad relationship where he was being great, and she was taking it all and not giving anything back so he left

but it also seems to say that you cant like its hard to explain, like take chances, and you cant live when you are not taking chances!

but i cant connect my two ideas

    they're probably all wrong

General Comment"and i'm locked in the gardener's gate" should be "and i'm lost in the gardener's gate"

I love the parts where Bob sings fast. hehe.
I think that this song is about letting go of someone for their own good. The singer thinks that he is wrong for the girl, and that's why he broke up with her.

General CommentI have the Cd with the lyric book and it says it should be "lost"...but it certainly does sound like "locked". Maybe they wrote the lyricsto say lost, but recorded it differently as "locked"? There are a couple of instances from Goodbye Blues where the lyrics from the book seem to not quite match what it sounds like in the song

General Commentmy interpretation of this song is that he's telling someone that they shouldn't worry about him so much because all he is doing for them is making them i guess...fail? something along those lines.

General Commenti honestly don't think that Goodbye Blues was a really good album (i bought it the day i came out, so i didn't hear any reviews about it yet).
i have to admit, greta's voice certainly annoyed me on the album.
i kept on wondering when she wold stop singing, and then this song came on.
i immediately fell in love with the lyrics, BOB'S (not greta's) voice and i just fell in love with the song.
this is definitely my favorite song off of the album.
it's very catchy and gets stuck in my head often.
    no hate replies please.

as for the lyrics, it really is lost.
    the lyric booklet reads exactly:
"Shackles and Chains get in the way and I'm lost in the gardener's gate"
as for the meaning, the only part i can interpret is:
    "It's all sinking in
I'd probably just swim if I could
But I can't, so I'm just hanging on and on
    Just let me go
You know it won't be long
    Before the lights are out"
the relationship is going bad, and he would work it out if he could, but he can't. however, he's still hanging on and he wants the girl to let him go because he knows it won't be long till their love is gone.
well, that's how i see it.
