"Laundry Room" as written by and Robert William Crawford Scott Yancey Avett....
Don't push me out
Just a little longer
Stall your mother
Disregard your father's words

Close the laundry door
Tiptoe across the floor
Keep your clothes on
I've got all that I can take
Teach me how to use
The love that people say you made
(Teach me how to use)
(The love that people say you made)

Stop your parents' car
I just saw a shooting star
We can wish upon it
We won't share the wish we made
But I can't keep no secrets
I wish that you would always stay

Last night I dreamt the whole night long
I woke with a head full of songs
I spent the whole day
I wrote 'em down, but it's a shame
(Teach me how to use, teach me how to use)
Tonight I'll burn the lyrics
'Cause every chorus was your name
(Teach me how to use, teach me how to use)

Break this tired old routine
(Break this tired old routine)
And this time don't make me leave
(And this time don't make me leave)

I am a breathing time machine
(I am a breathing time machine)
I'll take you all for a ride
(I'll take you all)

I am a breathing time machine
(I am a breathing time machine)
I'll take you all for a ride
(I'll take you all for a ride)

Break this tired old routine
(I am a breathing time machine)
And this time don't make me leave
(Leave)

Song MeaningThe first verse "Don't push me out. Just a little Longer" is about a man over at his girlfriend's place. And it's getting late and he wants to stay, but she's making him leave. Coupled with the next lines, "Stall your mother. Disregard your father's words", it makes me believe that the girl (and probably the guy) are pretty young and that the girl still lives with her parents, which is part of the reason why the girl makes the guy leave.

The next verse "Close the laundry door, tiptoe across the floor," is about how the two lovers have to be quiet in their actions because of her parents being in the same house. The guy then says "Keep your clothes on. I have all that I can take" which means that his interest isn't about Sex but rather her company and her love. He has all that he can take meaning his emotions are already running high and to add sex to the mix would be overwhelming.

    The next verse

    "Stop your parents car
    i just thought you'd ignore
    We can wish upon it
but we wont share the wish we made
But i cant keep no secrets,
I wish that you would always stay
Last night i dreamt the whole night long
I woke with a head full of songs
    i spent the whole day
I wrote em down but its a shame
    Tonight i'll burn the lyrics,
cause every chorus was your name"

is about how in love the guy is for the girl. How he hopes and prays that the girl will always be his. It's hopeful and a little naieve in it's youthful ignorance, but that's what makes it beautiful, because we all hope that love will be the fireworks that is at first, and that it'll never fade.

Then "break this tired old routine, and this time dont' make me leave." Is the guys protest about the girl kicking him out every night because of her parents and their youth. He wants to stay because he loves her and he doesn't want to leave.

"Finally, I am a breathing time machine,
i'll take you on for a ride " I take this last verse to be the Avett brother's stepping back fromt he characters (the guy and girl) that they created in this songs, and this is more of a message from them as artists and musicians to their audience saying "Remember when you had a love like this, when you were youthful and naieve. I am the time machine that can take you back to those moments. I'll take all the listeners for a ride, back to the time and place when they felt in the same way."

General CommentThis song definitely makes me think of young love. It definitely reflects the innocence and newness of it. And maybe even more than young love this may be about a first love, and how you can only think about the person you love.

General Commenti think this is about love that you can't have.
someone you care about who cares about you too but for some reason you can't be together.

    "Stop your parents car
    i just thought you'd ignore
    We can wish upon it
but we wont share the wish we made
But i cant keep no secrets,
I wish that you would always stay "

They're both wishing the other will stay (he can't keep his wish secret) but for some reason it's either not okay or not right for them to be together.

That's why he has to burn the lyrics, every chorus was someone's name that he isn't supposed to be thinking of. No one can know he wrote those songs, and there is no point in singing them because it's a useless battle.

Haha. That's what I think but it's probably biased because that's the situation I'm in right now. :)

General CommentI am a breathing time machine .
when you are consumed by love you can go back in time and relive the love you made... love is so powerful it will let you travel back in time and into the future within moments of the past and dreams of the future...
