"You're Just a Country Boy" as written by and Fred Hellerman Matshall Barer....
Ain't gonna marry in the fall
Ain't gonna marry in the spring
For you're in love
With a pretty little girl
Who wears a diamond ring

[Chorus]
You're just a country boy
Money - have you none?
But you've got silver
In the stars
Gold in the morning sun
Gold in the morning sun

Never gonna kiss the ruby red lips
Of the prettiest girl in town
Never gonna ask her if she'll marry you
She'd only turn you down

[Chorus]

Never could afford a store-bought ring
With a sparklin' diamond stone
All you could afford is a loving heart
The only one you own

[Chorus]

General CommentSounds like a guy whose not the best looking, smartest, or richest, but just a plain country guy and he's in love with the "prettiest girl in town" but she doesn't love him back because she is engaged to another guy and he'll never get her because of who he is.

General CommentThis is one of my favorites. Don Williams version is equally as good, just sung from first person perspective.

Yeah pretty much agree, its a guy who doesn't have a lot to give other than his full love and dedication. I don't think the woman shunned him though, i think she probably had more love for him, than her richer suitor, but he lost the battle because what he had to give wouldn't provide the life she wanted. I say this because he laments so deeply about the kiss and mentions the marriage he would never have, so there seems to have been something real there once. Something that he had and lost, rather than never had at all.
