If all our life is but a dream
Fantastic posing greed
Then we should feed our jewelery to the sea
For diamonds do appear to be
Just like broken glass to me

And then she said she can't believe
Genius only comes along
In storms of fabled foreign tongues
Tripping eyes, and flooded lungs
Northern downpour sends its love

Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don't you go down

Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely

The ink is running toward the page
It's chasin' off the days
Look back at both feet
And that winding knee
I missed your skin when you were east
You clicked your heels and wished for me

Through playful lips made of yarn
That fragile Capricorn
Unraveled words like moths upon old scarves
I know the world's a broken bone
But melt your headaches, call it home

Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don't you go down

Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely

Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely

Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely

Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely

Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely

Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely
Sugarcane in the easy mornin'
Weather-vanes my one and lonely

Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don't you go down
You are at the top of my lungs
Drawn to the ones who never yawn

you guys are fuckers. i like the new them. i miss the old panic too, but people change.

"If all our life is but a dream, fantastic posing greed. Then we should feed our jewelry to the sea. For diamonds do appear to be. Just like broken glass to me." i think this means that life is supposed to be great, but it seems to shitty (for diamonds do appear to be just like broken glass to me.).

"And then she said she cant believe. Genius only comes along in storms of fabled foreign tongues. Tripping eyes, and flooded lungs. Northern Downpour sends its love." this part is tricky. possibly this guy was not who she thought he was (genius only comes along in storms of fabled foreign tongues.). also, when i think of the phrase "northern downpour sends its love" i think that refers to crying because downpour means heavy rain. not sure though.

"Hey moon, please forget to fall down. Hey moon, don’t you go down. Sugarcane in the easy morning. Weather vanes my one and lonely." i think that this means that his day has been so good so far, and that he doesn't want it to end (hey moon, please forget to fall down. hey moon, don't you go down.) i'm not sure about what he means by "sugarcane in the easy morning", but a weather vane is a device for indicating wind direction, so you go figure that one out...

"The ink is running toward the page, it’s chasing off the days. Look back at both feet and that winding knee. I missed your skin when you were east. You clicked your heels and wished for me." he's writing about their history (the ink is running toward the page, it's chasing off the days.) also, they're from las vegas, which is west, so this girl wasn't in vegas, but she wished she was.

"Through playful lips made of yarn that fragile Capricorn unraveled words like moths upon old scarves." someone brought back memories (capricorn unraveled words like moths upon old scarves.) capricorn is an astrology sign, but i don't think he was talking about that...

"I know the world’s a broken bone, but melt your headaches call it home." these words really touch me. i think it means that even though the world, or rather life, is fucked up, it's still your "home".

"You are at the top of my lungs Drawn to the ones who never yawn" i'm not too sure about this one.

sorry if i got some things wrong; i'm not good at this stuff. this was just how i interpreted it.

it sounds like they're wishing for peace. not like, in the world sense, but a sense of comfort and serenity... 'hey moon, don't forget to fall down' reminds me of someone thinking about how they never want this moment to end. and 'you're at the top of my lungs' sounds like he is trying to breathe in all of the feelings he's experiencing right now. and the broken bone part does remind me of healing, like he's trying to fix the parts of the world that are falling apart. it seems to me like he's trying to explain about taking on the world at such a young age, and being the peacemaker of the nation. i'm probably completely off base here, but it makes sense to me.

"I know the world's a broken bone, but melt your headaches call it home." This is one of my favorite lyrics from the album. It's beautiful, and it's something we've all got to remember. Though the world is messed up and it'll never be perfect, it's our home. This can be taken in a much smaller scale too. I read somewhere that Ryan had a really rough childhood because of his alcoholic father, and apparently Ryan moved out to get and wasn't close with family for a while. This line seems like he's finally come to terms with how his life used to be, and he's making peace with it and his family.

    Song Meaning

Have you guys ever listened to The Beatles' song Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds? Well if you read the lyrics you will see that none of it makes sense, which makes the song that much more interesting. This my interpretation of Northern Downpour. I may be wrong but this is my best shot:

"If all our life is but a dream Fantastic posing greed Then we should feed our jewelry to the sea For diamonds do appear to be Just like broken glass to me"

-Basically if our life is nothing but a huge illusion of us [people] being indulged with material things, then we shouldn't care it because it's just a dream, and in the end we will always wake up to reality. So frankly diamonds or any other type of nice accessory don't mean anything. There are more important things. As for 'Fanstastic Posing Greed', I think of the 7 deadly sins. Indulgence, greed, vanity, and pretty much everything that a materalistic person does We should live a world where material crap shouldn't be the most important thing.

"And then she said she cant believe Genius only comes along in storms of fabled foreign tongues Tripping eyes and flooded lungs Northern downpour sends its love"

-I'm guessing this means that the girl is overwhelmed by the fact that the perfect "love" can only be found in make-believe fairies tale which are all foriegn and in a different languages [tongues]. All those fairies tales like snow white, cinderella and beauty and the beast are foreign. "Tripping eyes" means graceful stare and "Flooded" means hectic or busy... Lungs supply oxygen which we need to live. So Busy/hectic Life yet she's beautful ...because busy people tend to be stressed and become ugly-looking kinda, and then "northern downpour" could be tears coming "down"... "Sends its love" Love is an emotion so she basically cried all her emotions.

"Hey moon, please forget to fall down Hey moon, don't you go down"

-Of course this means that the person doesn't want to wake from their good happy dream

"Sugarcane in the easy morning Weathervanes my one and lonely" -This was hard. Sugarcane is highly rich in sugar... people are always saying that you shouldn't consume so much sugar in the morning because it makes you super hyper yet you end up crashing within an hour and you feel like shit. Sugar is bad for you, period. It can cause alot of illnesses. So I think that the person is sort of using sugarcane as a drug so that they can fall back asleep or be lethargic, or possibly die...and in the morning you're body is barely waking up so loading yourself with sugar is BAD! Weathervanes? Ugh those are up in the roof and they show the direction of the wind, so maybe the person needs some guidance because the weather vane is pretty much their only friend… since its lonely=friendless as well.

“The ink is running toward the page It's chasing off the days. Look back at both feet and that winding knee I missed your skin when you were east You clicked your heels and wished for me”

-Days are going by, I suppose. The person is thinking back and thinking about two pasts…. This was harder, but that’s what I think it means… wow this song is depressing. Still love it though.

“Through playful lips made of yarn That fragile Capricorn Unraveled words like moths upon old scarves I know the worlds a broken bone But melt your headaches call it home”

-‘Yarn’ also means: “A story told by a sailor for the amusement of his companions; a story or tale; as to spin a yarn”. So everything coming from the person’s mouth [lips] could just be invented, and ‘playful’ could mean ‘teasing’… because when you “spin” yarn you’re revolving it and whirling it in different directions “changing things”, so maybe the person simply can’t get their story straight! And Capricorns are practical and down-to-earth signs, so they know the world is literally busted and messed up. The “fragile” part. Maybe at one point they experienced something distressing, so when they spoke their words where repulsive, as a scarf eaten by moths would look like. As for headaches they are caused by annoyances or problems LOL …So through her phony mouth she/he [the weak Capricorn] spoke awful words. But who cares what The Capricorn says cuz the world is messed up anyway. So just forget it and go home!

"Hey moon, please forget to fall down Hey moon, don't you go down You are at the top of my lungs Drawn to the ones who never yawn"

-I think this means... Hey dream/fantasy don't go away because you are at the top of my lungs.. again Lungs=Life... So the dreams/fantasies are the only thing that keep him/her/whoever striving in life in hopes that someday they will become reality.

    Song Meaning

If all our life is but a dream

(If its all fake) Fantastic posing greed

(Disgusting faking amazing) Then we should feed our jewelry to the sea

(Then we should throw away these trivial things)

For diamonds do appear to be Just like broken glass to me

(Because I don't need them because they seem like broken glass to me)

And then she said she cant believe Genius only comes along in storms of fabled foreign tongues

(She hasn't seen anyone smart or realistic in where she has stayed, it also implies she has not gone anywhere.)

Tripping eyes and flooded lungs Northern downpour sends its love

(If you change it around, it says; 'Flooded eyes and tripping lungs. Which I think could mean she's crying and choking on what to say. Northern means upwards and downpour means well, rain. Tears. So the tears are sincere because of the world love. Get it?)

Hey moon, please forget to fall down Hey moon, dont you go down

(Its either been an amazing day and he doesn't want it to end. Or he doesn't want to wake up to another tomorrow. Different perspectives.)

Sugarcane in the easy morning Weathervanes my one and lonely

(From where I live, sugar cane in the morning represents that he'll make sure its a good day today. Weathervanes my one and lonely is basically saying 'I'll leave it up to fate')

The ink is running toward the page Its chasing off the days

(The time is running up, its chasing away today.) Look back at both feet and that winding knee I missed your skin when you were east

(It implies she's turning toward a place. She's going away from her home. East is probably where he is, as it implies he could see/smell/feel her skin.)

You clicked your heels and wished for me

    (She called out for him.)

Through playful lips made of yarn That fragile Capricorn

(She's sly, her lips are quick. She probably rambles on like a ball of yarn. Or something like that. But she is still fragile.)

Unravelled words like moths upon old scarves I know the worlds a broken bone

(She told him something that broke his heart. Like moths to old scarves. He knows now that the world is hopeless.)

But melt your headaches call it home

(He thinks he's the source of her annoyance, and tells her to go home out of consideration.)

Hey moon, please forget to fall down Hey moon, don't you go down You are at the top of my lungs Drawn to the ones who never yawn

(He thinks the only way he can stay through the night and see fate is to go through it with a smile.)

    My Interpretation

I believe that this song is somewhat about how even though things can seem great, inside, they aren’t as beautiful as they seem. This is taken from the lyrics, "For diamonds do appear to be, just like broken glass to me."

    My Interpretation

"If all our life is but a dream Fantastic posing greed" Then we should feed our jewelry to the sea"

If our lives really mean nothing, great! But why are we all so damn greedy then? Lets throw away everything but the necessities and not worry so much about appearances.

"For diamonds do appear to be Just like broken glass to me"

The things that are beautiful to the world, like cheap sex and money, are not beautiful to me, but dangerous, as broken glass is dangerous.

"And then she said she cant believe Genius only comes along in storms of fabled foreign tongues Tripping eyes and flooded lungs"

His girl says to him that she's shocked there are no geniuses in America. They are all either foreign ("fabled foreign tongues"), perverted or misguided ("tripping eyes"), or dead ("flooded lungs").

    "Northern downpour sends its love"

Northern downpour is his tears over what's she said about this because it makes him feel unimportant to her. (It's farfetched but it makes sense to me.)

"Hey moon, please forget to fall down Hey moon, dont you go down"

When the moon goes down, the night will end. He wants the night to last because he is hidden and alone so he can mourn and be his own man, and he is shielded from the greed and superficiality of others.

"Sugarcane in the easy morning Weathervanes my one and lonely"

These are memories of the better times, a sharp contrast to the first verse. The first verse represents life as a man, and this portion represents memories of childhood. Everything was sweet and easy, and there was always a clear direction.

"The ink is running toward the page Its chasing off the days Look back at both feet and that winding knee"

This portion has something to do with his life with the girl, and the memories they shared. He's asking her not to move east by telling her to think of their times together.

"I missed your skin when you were east You clicked your heels and wished for me"

I missed my girl when she moved away from me but she said she still wanted me. I followed her east because I missed seeing her in person and being together with her phhysically.

"Through playful lips made of yarn That fragile Capricorn Unravelled words like moths upon old scarves"

The girl is a Capricorn, which may or may not hold some certain signifigance to Urie. It may simply be a way to refer to the girl without name. He says that the girl is fragile but playful, and her lips are capable of saying things about the past that really damage him and upset him. By saying that the words are like moths upon old scarves, he means that the words are eating away slowly and leaving holes in his heart. The entire stanza means that though the girl was fragile and not meaning to hurt something playfully said about the past began to eat away at him like moths on scarves.

"I know the worlds a broken bone But melt your headaches call it home"

Basically, the world sucks, but I moved east for this girl. Is she worth it? Hell if I know. Just try to forget the bad things, and make it feel like home.

"You are at the top of my lungs Drawn to the ones who never yawn"

The girl is in him. He may be yelling or crying her name, but even though he fled back home to the west, she still gets to him. But she is drawn to the men who will never "yawn". This may mean they will never grow tired of her or bore her, and it implies that she grew tire of him or he of her before he left for the west again.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
