"Death And The Maiden" as written by and Downes....
You're just too obscure for me
Oh and you don't really get
Through to me
And there's no need
For you to talk that way
Is there really less special little
Things to say?

Do like Paul Verlaine?
Is it gonna rain today?
Shall we have our photo taken?
We'll look like Death and The Maiden

Verlaine, Verlaine, Verlaine,
Verlaine, Verlaine etc

I still choose to lose the way I like
Fool around, slit my arms out of spite
But I won't reject so long as
You make sense
But I'm through the ruse and
Vague intentions

You shouldn't talk to me find
Better company
There's better people to know
You'll only end up like Rimbaud
Get shot by

Verlaine, Verlaine, Verlaine,
Verlaine, Verlaine etc

You shouldn't talk to me find
Better company
There's better people to know
You'll only end up like Rimbaud
Get shot by Verlaine

Verlaine, Verlaine, Verlaine,
Verlaine, Verlaine

General CommentThis is a song by the Verlaines and COVERED by elemeno P very poorly.
Okay, so paul verlaine and arthur rimbaud were both french poets in like 1900 or something. And they were a couple. but verlaine got drunk and shot rimaud in the arm (he didn't die though)
so thats why it says "You'll only end up like rimbaud, get shot by verlaine"

and i think death and the maiden is a painting (by edvard munch?) I think it's of a woman hugging a skeleton, so i guess that's what a photo of the guy in the song and whoever the song is to, would look like.

General CommentThese lyrics are missing the final verse:

The way you think, is oh so bloody stale.
    Your sanity looks pretty frail.
You have to clutch at every tiny straw.
And I can't stomach that at all.

Overall it sounds a like guy talking to a soon to be ex-friend or lover, and because the gender is ambigious, probably to wider society. Disillusioned, disappointed, frustrated and angry about the aggressive and narrow-minded nature of the human relationships where he is, i.e. in New Zealand. He can't even escape into poetry or the idea of some romantic past times.
