He couldn't control her
He wanted to show her
The moment he knew it would end
His father's older
and he could remember
She kissed him on top of his head

Take care, I'll see when I make it to the other side
I'll always see you when I look into my father's eyes

One final weekend
of easy young boyfriends
Another bump into the night
They stumbled off into the lights

Let's go, I heard a party kickin' on the east side
If it's the cool, I'm sure one of my friends will drive

Over the nation all the haters bow to me
Stealing parties anyway
[??]

Gather a DJ
and I couldn't get laid
Another Sunday at the pound
Some of them waited
Some were frustrated
Where is my cocaine town

Steady move as we drove on in through the back gate
Line it up, give me a piece on the paper plate

Nobody told me til I saw Polly
Two weeks after you're gone
I wasn't too shot
But then I felt
[??]
Another friend into the cold

Take care, I'll see you when I make it to the other side
I'll always see you when I bump up in the night

Over the nation all the haters bow to me
Stealing parties anyway
[??]

One up on the dance floor
The other in the grave

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
