So its another night in my brain
'Cause I can't sleep
And oh, it wears on your shoulders
Just please don't ever leave
Me here, don't ever leave me
Don't you leave

Start out like a sailor
And bring back all you need
So everyone else can
Try and get some sleep

It turns out you were into yourself
It turns out you can fuck your way out
Just once more for my baby girl

It turns out you were into yourself
It turns out you can fuck your way out

And so I woke up near the sea,
The sand in my dreams
Cause now you are already falling back in love with me
Just fall back in love, yeah
Just fall back in love

Start out like a sailor
And bring back all you need
So everyone else can
Try and get some sleep

It's just the season on your back
It's just the way we know to act

It's just the season on your back
It's just the way we know to act

It turns out you were into yourself
It turns out you can fuck your way out
Just once more for my baby girl

It turns out you were into yourself
It turns out you can fuck your way out

And no one ever knew...

i could be completely off, but these lyrics seem to portray the relationship between two best friends. he falls in love with this girl he's really close to, but she's a bit of a manipulative slut. when she has no one, she acts like she loves him. he's begging her not to leave him again, but he knows there's no use prolonging the inevitable.

Start out like a sailor And bring back all you need ==> go out looking for your men, how ever many it takes to satisfy you & make you realize they're not right for you.

It turns out you were into yourself It turns out you could find your way out Just once more for my baby girl ==> we made believe we were in love. but you were just using me as a place holder. you were lonely. i was lonely. but you were able to find a way out. i'll still be waiting for you.

And so I woke up near the sea, Sailing in my dreams You are already falling back in love with me Just fall back in love, yeah Just fall back in love ==> every dream is about you returning to me. but of course, it's just a dream.

It's just the season on your back It's just the way we know to act ==> it's funny & sad how nothing needs to be said when you find someone new. you're going through your slut phase & i know better than to pretend we're in love.

it's kind of hard for the word to be find when the word find doesn't have a hard c/k sound at the end, though.

I see it in a slightly different way than kissmeimeskmo. I think maybe two people are in a relationship that's like a rollercoaster..

"You are already falling back in love with me Just fall back in love, yeah Just fall back in love"

To me this sounds like the girl loves him, but will just give up on him and the relationship at any given moment, but he knows that she will always come back to him because they truly love each other.

I dunno, I could be completely off, but this is just what I'm reading into it. Great song btw, Lydia is amazing.

I thought the "Just fall back in love" was part of his 'sailing on dreams', that is, when he's asleep, the girl loves him again.

I love this song. When he says, "just once more for my baby girl" I get chills.

i thought he said "find" as well, but i'm pretty sure it actually is "fuck" lol cuz i bought the album online from amazon & there's an (explicit) warning next to this song title.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
