"Human" as written by and Steve Mckellar....
There's one way out and one way in
Back to the beginning
There's one way back to home again
To where I feel forgiven

What is this I feel, why is it so real
What am I to say

It's only love, it's only pain
It's only fear, that run through my veins
It's all the things you can't explain
That make us human

I am just an image of something so much greater
I am just a picture frame, I am not the painter
Where do I begin, can I shed this skin
What is this I feel within

It's only love, it's only pain
It's only fear that runs through my veins
It's all the things you can't explain
That make us human

That make us human
That make us human

It's only love, it's only pain
It's only fear that runs through my veins
It's all the things you can't explain
That make us human

That make us human
That make us human
Oh that make us human

General CommentI've heard in interviews that Steve said this song wasn't about faith, necessarily, but simply about the things that set us apart from everything else in the world and define us as human. Pretty straightforward, I guess. But it's beautiful.

General Commentit kind of reduces everyone down to this intrinsically human level.
theres nothing to really distinguish between us anymore because we all have the same emotions.

Song MeaningI swear this band is made up of Christian guys. This song seems one of the mos obvious.

The first verse speaks about "one way" and ends with feeling forgiven. This echos the Christian belief that Jesus is the only way to heaven (which is what I think 'home' refers to).

The line, "I am just an image of, something so much greater" seems to be a way of articulating that human beings were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26). "I am just a picture frame, not the painter" seems to recognize that there is a higher sovereignty than human beings who works inside of us (notice the painter would paint a canvas which goes inside the picture frame). "What is this I feel within" also seems to allude to how God works in men's hearts by the Holy Spirit.

This band is like Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, The Fray, and U2. Their lyrics contain many Christian principles and truths, but they aren't explicitly stated. I love it!

MemoryThis is by far one of my most favored bands they got me through alot. The words were like blankets when I felt the world was going cold. I'm doing great now ,but I'll always own every album and know every single word because this is a very inspirational group lyrically and also Steven's unique voice that follows the perfectly blended melody makes it all the more better.
