"Palms Read" as written by and Arif Mirabdolbaghi Tim Millar....
As often as always
Evolution comes crawling from the sea
Alive with the urgency like suicide, like suicide
Convinced the grass is greener on dry earth

The march of serrated utterance like a soft cough
Muffled murmur sneaking through the lecture hall
They crawl across the island

Sound of waves
Embodied water
Sprouting legs, loud as gallop

All the young people
Who took a leap with no faith into a riverbed
That drowns about as much as it saves

Slowing down on the ground
Against the cries of gravity

Crawling on, half buried in the sand
Extend a hand to the smallness of death
Understand that only dying is this colossal

Creation, shedding skin
To find the perfect equilibrium like fossils
All the young people
Who took a leap of no faith

All the young cowards acting out
All the young cowards acting out
For the braves forever hurled
Into the waters of their indifferent graves

For a million years raise your glass
We will never answer where we came from
For a million years raise your glass in a cheer
We'll never answer where we came from
Only how we got

For a million years raise your glass
We will never answer where we came from
For a million years raise your glass
Only how we got here

General Commenti think the song has a few meanings,
the first about how humans religion has caused so many deaths through war-"into a riverbed that drowns about, as much as it saves"
and that faith in science is more realistic than creation-"we will never answer where we came from only how we got here" as in we know how we evolved but not if there is a god
And there is no proof of a god so wars over who or if there is an almighty creator exists are pointless and humans have evolved negatively in many ways "convinced the grass is greener on dry earth"

    My InterpretationHere goes nothing:

    "As often as always
Evolution comes crawling from the sea
Alive with the urgency like suicide, like suicide
Convinced the grass is greener on dry earth"

As often as always, evolution comes crawling from the sea seems to be referring to the cycle of life that we are in. The urgency like suicide, is the urgency that we have this endless need to move on, towards dry earth or, eventually, to our own death/self-destruction (hence the suicide).

"Crawling on, half buried in the sand
Extend a hand to the smallness of death
Understand that only dying is this colossal"

I think this is about the fact that everyone dies, no matter what your beleifs are, we will all die and return to the earth we came from (half buried in the sand) and we should understand that the only certainty is death, and everything else that might seem "colossal" to us, is in fact something we make colossal for ourselves. I think it's kind of a nihilistic vision on life. (Life's a bitch, and then You die :-) )

"All the young cowards acting out
    For the braves forever hurled
Into the waters of their indifferent graves"

It might seem like a goal in life, to convince everyone that you're completely right about the meaning of life ("All the young cowards acting out") together with "the braves" (the ones that are brave enough to lead their own life without bothering others with their "beleifs") they have all the same indifferent graves, in the water they once came from. "As often as always, evolution comes crawling from the sea" beautifully closes the cycle, as the song also starts with this line. We are an evolutionary product of something called 'life' and we should be thankful that we're capable of understanding/ being conscious of the fact that we ARE, instead of fighting about who is right about where we came from.

Last of all, I think the title captures the entire meaning of the song. Reading Psalms (from the bible) or reading the palms on your hand, they're both a way to explain things in life, and life itself, we don't (and never will) understand. That's what the whole song is a about i.m.o

This is my humble interpretation about a great song, maybe one of PTH's best ones. I'd like to read anyones opinion about this song and discover other explanations for these (almost philosophical) lyrics.

Sincere apologies for any mis-spelling, English is my second language.
    :-)

General Commentthe piece at the end is by far one of the best instramentals in music

say what you want but i almost broke my neck rocking out to it so hard
but thats what makes Protest The Hero, Protest The Hero...

from their insanely deep, complex lyrics to their uncommon rhythms/transitions, Protest The Hero is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise repeatitive, bland music industry

....just proves how music should been seen more universally as an art rather than just simplified entertainment.

General CommentI think the song is about how humans are killing themselves, (metaphorically of course!) How we don't understand how anything works "convinced the grass is greener on dry earth". We think we can do anything, and we will die because of it. This can possibly be linked to the death of our planet. Humans are cowardice. About the fossils line? The whole line "Understand that only dying is this colossal, creation shedding skin to find a perfect equilibrium like fossils" could be saying that we take death for nothing. Death is the final step in life, and it, at its best, is preserved for everybody to remember, like fossils (and possibly that we should cherish life before we kill it)

The closing lines, to me, shout out that we will never realize how humanity came to be, but know that we are here and that we need to make life last.

as for the two minutes part
about two minutes later, Flidais comes out from the forest to kick the humans in the ass.
(about two minutes later, in album time, the first lines from Limb From Limb are sung)

As for the title? I think it might be a typo, possibly supposed to be "Psalms Read"
Although it is probably supposed to be as in "Palm reading" as in "our future is inevitable, we will die."

General CommentActually, Arif is the bassist and mainly contributes some growls into the songs on this album (same as the previous album), all the singing done on this song is Rody.
