"Got A Hold Of Me" as written by and Zachary Walker/hanson Hanson....
Try as I might
I'm a fool in a losing fight
Can't escape the bullet's bite
'Cause the enemy's in sight

Sign on the dotted line
Take your pick, have a bite
When seduction starts
I know it won't stop
Till I give you the things
I can't deny

You've got me wrapped around your finger
But I'm not quite what you thought I'd be

You really got a hold on me
You really got a hold and it's feelin' good
You really got control of me
I should've gotten out when I thought I could

I get my fix for the last time
One more trip to the other side
I scratch my skin
'Cause you leave me dry
I'm makin' deals with thieves and liars

Walk the roads down the boulevards
Past the dollar shows for the bleeding hearts
You've used me up
Down to the last drop
But I'm more than what you thought I'd be

You thought you had a hold on me
You thought you had a hold and it's feelin' good
You thought you had control of me
Should have gotten out when you thought I would

You thought you had control of me
But you never had your hold on me
You never had control of me
You never had control of me, control of me

General CommentThis is an amazing song, and probably my second favorite song on The Walk album.

I think this is a song that has a variety of interpretations. I can definitely see it as a man at war with himself, including being addicted to a drug. Especially with the line...

"I get my fix for the last time
One more trip to the other side"

I remember hearing somewhere, they wrote this song about the struggle with IDJ. If that's true, it definitely comes across especially with the line, "Sign on the dotted line." That can be in reference to them finally breaking free and going on their own.

All in all, it's hard to tell. There are so many things this song could be about. And, it's possible it's about a mixture of concepts.

General CommentThough I'm good at reading through vagueness, I believe this is a rare song that actually tells a story.

IMO, this song is about a man at war. He's signed on for more than he can handle and after an injury becomes addicted to some kind of drug. He brings his habit back home with him, but I'm still undecided who was stronger in the end; the drug or the man?

Song ComparisonSo, one night I was with a friend and he played a song that sounded a LOT like "Got a Hold on Me" but it wasn't. It was Paul McCartney's "Really Love You" and the base and drums sound WAY too similar to "Got a Hold on Me."

Does anyone know the story behind this?

That's the song if anyone wants to listen to it.
