Holding you
Couldn't be alone
Loving you
Couldn't be alone
Kissing you

Holding you
Couldn't be alone
Loving you
Couldn't be alone
Kissing you
Tell me how can you, tell me I belong, tell me I belong

Its not why I trust you, not why I trust you, not why I trust you
Not why I trust you
It's not why I trust you, not why I trust you, not why I trust you
Not why I trust you

Tell me, how can you
Holding you
Couldn't be alone
Loving you
Couldn't be alone
Kissing you
Tell me how can you, tell me I belong, tell me I belong

i think burials meaning of this song is a guy is trying to tell a girl how he feels but he cant quite get the words out. thats why theres alot of repeating the words n stuttering, unfinished sentences etc.bt yes the samples from ray j - one wish. both banging tunes.

Burial wrote the track after he found out that his dog was dead. He was devastated by the loss. It took him 20 minutes to create Archangel. Such a genius

These lyrics don't seem correct. I'm pretty positive that it should be "couldn't be alone" rather than "good at being alone" and "could it be alone". My reasoning behind that is that it was sampled from the Ray J song "One Wish" and that's how it is.

I also think the "tell me how can you" should just stay "tell me I belong" since I don't notice any change up in the sound of the words. "If I trust you" should be repeated rather than "it's not why I trust you" and "not why I trust you," as well. That's my piece. The Ray J bit is 100% correct, and the rest is not definitive but just seems right to my ears. Love the song. Cheers!

    Listen,

I think the whole point behind skewing the tones and pitches of the lyrics from ray-j's One Wish, was to create a lyrical Ambiguity so that one takes it how one wishes.

I feel that most accurately, the song promotes a more tender and sad subject of break ups in relationships.

If it were meant to be seen as "good at being alone" one could see it from the perspective of the speaker saying 'It never works out for me, its like I'm good at being anti-social or having relationships not work out'

From the other side of things, "couldn't be alone" makes everything seem like the speaker is saying something like, 'baby I can't live without you, don't break up with me.'

Furthermore, I personally don't hear, "Its not why i trust you" but rather "He better trust you" as if the significant other in the relationship is leaving him for someone else. "He better trust you" in this case is synonymous to 'he better treat you well' sort of a bitter 'I hope you're happy!' kind of thing.

    But that's just my opinion.

This song is so fucking smooth and sexy, god damn. Not much i dea what it means, probably something about Burial's personality, the song seems to be talking about loneliness though its definitely talking about someone else aswell.

ok, last night I woke up dreaming with the girl I feel in love with. we closed the bathroom door on ourselves and started kissing under the shower, (naked, for what it matters...) that's what I dreamt about this colleague of mine at work, yes. i woke up gasping for air for ten minutes. then i sent nothing but the youtube link of it to her right in the morning. what you make of it?

No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
