"Village Green Preservation Society" as written by and Raymond Douglas Davies....
We are the Village Green Preservation Society
God save Donald Duck, Vaudeville and Variety
We are the Desperate Dan Appreciation Society
God save strawberry jam and all the different varieties.
Preserving the old ways from being abused,
Protecting the new ways for me and for you
What more can we do

We are the Draught Beer Preservation Society
God save Mrs. Mopp and good Old Mother Riley
We are the Custard Pie Appreciation Consortium
God save the George Cross and all those who were awarded them

We are the Sherlock Holmes English Speaking Vernacular
Help save Fu Manchu, Moriarty and Dracula
We are the Office Block Persecution Affinity
God save little shops, china cups and virginity

We are the Skyscraper condemnation Affiliate
God save tudor houses, antique shops and billiards
Preserving the old ways from being abused
Protecting the new ways for me and for you
What more can we do

We are the Village Green Preservation Society
God save Donald Duck, Vaudeville and Variety
We are the Desperate Dan Appreciation Society
God save strawberry jam and all the different varieties.

We are the Village Green Preservation Society
God save Donald Duck, Vaudeville and Variety

God save the Village Green

General CommentA big thank you to TheDirge for adding all the Kate Rusby lyrics - some of them are difficult or impossible to find elsewhere. Listening carefully to Village Green Preservation Society I think she sings "tudor houses, antique SHOPS and billiards", not antique tables. Love this artist and her songs!

General Commentthat should be "Got save Tudor Houses, antique shops, and billiards", at least on the Awkward Annie recording.

General CommentAt the risk of stating the B***ding Obvious. I reckon you should be asking god to bless Ray Davies of The Kinks rather than Kate Rusby, not withstanding her excellent singing voice, cos all she did was sing the song. It was Ray Davies who wrote it and originally recorded it over 40 years ago. I can only assume that all 3 of you have a combined age of less than 40 if you were unaware of this fact.
