I've called and asked
Failed and masked
My feelings to your downcast eyes

I've done all I can to try
Still you,

Leave me standing here
Watching the tailights disappear
Down this long darkened highway
Your intentions were never clear

Dust rises up, swirling a tornado
My eyes harden along with my heart
In that second I gave up chasing you
You'll drive away, at last drifting apart

When you look back, with watering eyes
I'll match your gaze, but I won't wave goodbye.

    General Commentpretty self-explanatory.

a girl and a guy were in soe sort of relationship whether it be friendship or romantic and there drifting apart.

driving and highways used as a metaphor for her "driving away" from him to go somewhere eles and be with someone else.

the guy has lost all feeling for her because either she did something or lost interest in the relationship and so when she leaves he doesnt care anymore and finally feels free, yet alone, for the first time in a long time.
