"My People" as written by Julian Hamilton and Kimberley Moyes....
I'm here with all of my people
Locked up with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

So let's head in your room lovely
I'll follow all around the world for you
And you'll find out tonight, oh it's a world of extreme

Oh, they'll take all our ceremony
They'll never find a happy hope for you
But know that's not the only chance you'll get, yeah you'll see

Oh, I'm here with all of my people
Locked up with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

I'm here with all of my people
Shut down with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

Still the celebration haunts
Today I heard it on the radio
You've gone and found a way to get me out from this place

Soldiers on the waterfront
They wanna ship me far away
I'll find my way tonight so I can find my way to you

I'm here with all of my people
Locked up with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

I'm here with all of my people
Shut down with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

I'm here with all of my people
Locked up with all of my people
I'm here with all of my people
Shut down all of my people

And it feels so and it feels so good
And it feels so and it feels so good
And it feels so and it feels so good
And it feels so and it feels so good
And it feels so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so

I'm here with all of my people
Locked up with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

I'm here with all of my people
Party time all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

General CommentI can honestly say I think they're very clever for disguising such an important issue into such an amazing song. And I can also honestly say that I'm guilty for being one of those girls who could dance the night away in my fluoro t-shirts to this song. C'mon, and why not? It's the Presets!
Congrats, guys on a brilliant piece of work.

General Commenti'm pretty sure the lyrics are more like this:

i'm here with all of my people
locked up with all of my people
so let me hear you scream if you're with me

tall and tan and young and lovely
i follow all around the world for you
and you'll find out tonight oh it's a world of extremes

oh they'll take us and our money
they'll never find a happy home for you
but know that's not the only chance you'll get yeah you'll see

i'm here with all of my people
locked up with all of my people
so let me hear you scream if you're with me

i'm here with all of my people
shot down with all of my people
so let me hear you scream if you're with me

    still the celebration haunts
today i heard it on the radio
you've got to find a way to get me out of this place

    soldiers on the water front
they wanna ship me far away
i'll find my way tonight so i can find my way to you

i'm here with all of my people
locked up with all of my people
so let me hear you scream if you're with me

i'm here with all of my people
shot down with all of my people
so let me hear you scream if you're with me

    and it feels so
    and it feels so good

i'm here with all of my people
locked up with all of my people
so let me hear you scream if you're with me

i'm here with all of my people
party time all of my people
so let me hear you scream if you're with me

General CommentRefers to Australia's policy of mandatory detention of illegal immigrants.

Top song too. Well written without being to too preachy, yet not patronising the subject.

General Commentamazing how they could take a divisive subject like immigration policy and the tampa farce and dress it up to the best dance track of 2007. such creative music in so many ways. I dare say not too many people would be aware of the songs meaning. But still, its a great nightclub anthem.

btw: in the second verse. im pretty sure the lyrics are

    Political ceremony
    they'll never
find a happy home for you.

    agree/disagree?

General Commentdefinitely agree with long live INXS -
its "political ceremony", not "oh they'll take all our money".

but yeah its great how they disguised such an important issue in the words. very subtle though because most people only pay attention to the chorus so it just sounds like typical nightclub words until you actually read the lyrics.

General Commentlong live INXS has got it right, i mean this song has a great meaning, but it doesnt shove it down the publics throat, unlike another aussie artist i could name...

My InterpretationI was singing this song at home and my Mum pointed out that the line
"tall and tan and young and lovely" is an homage to Frank Sinatra's The Girl From Ipanema. Just thought I'd add that in as my two cents.
