From the look on your face, and the chains about your neck,
I'm willing to bet you're a prized possession.

Just give it up.
Just give it your all.
Just give it up.
(x2)

This is not the way you were meant to be.
This is not a moment of clarity.
This is not the way you were meant to be.
This is not a moment of clarity.

My heart is willing to change.
You're mine.

Your words are taking over mine.
Your words are taking over mine.
They're taking over every feeling I have,
It's all for you.

Give me your hand now!
This is exactly what it means, to promise.
I'll teach you to breathe.

Raise your hands to the sky, if you feel alive.
Raise your hands to the sky, if you feel alive.

Raise your hands to the sky, if you feel alive.
Raise your hands to the sky, if you feel alive.

General CommentI think this song is about being depressed, or in a bad stage of a person's life (perhaps, not feeling loved?) and then the person becomes a Christian and they finally feel joy like they have never experienced before.

"From the look on your face, and the chains about your neck,
I'm willing to bet you're a prized possession."
-He's saying that the person he is referring to, does not know Jesus, and he/she is very unhappy, and you can tell just by looking at them.
By "the chains about your neck" and "I'm willing to bet you're a prized possession.", he is saying that he can tell that he/she's life is owned by Satan.

    "Just give it up.
    Just give it your all.
    Just give it up."
-He is saying that he/she needs to accept Jesus Christ and repent ASAP. It may also mean that the person really has nothing else to turn towards for relief, and they might as well just "Give it up." after all, what harm would it do, even if it doesn't help?
"This is not the way you were meant to be.
This is not a moment of clarity"
-He is saying that the person has a higher calling, and through God, the person can achieve it. I'm not totally sure what "this is not a moment of clarity" means, but it might mean that the person knows deep down that this is and always has known that God is the key to his/her happiness.

"Your words are taking over mine.
Your words are taking over mine.
They're taking over every feeling I have,
    it's all for you."
-The person has given themself to Christ, and his/her words and thoughts are being affected by it.

    "Give me your hand now!
This is exactly what it means, to promise.
    I'll teach you to breathe."
-the person has given themselves to Chist, and they are learning how to live their life in a more meaningful and joyful manner through Christ. By "this is exactly what it means, to promise." it means that Jesus has successfully fulfilled his promise towards this person.

"Raise your hands to the sky, if you feel alive.
Raise your hands to the sky, if you feel alive."
-The person has handed themselves over to Christ, completely, and their lives are totally transformed. The verses could be a referrence to worship.
It probably means that the person "feels alive" once again. Through Christ, they have found joy and meaning in their lives.

This is my personal favorite song by Oceana, it's beautiful. This is what the song means to me, personally.

General Commentdo you mean this song is about god, or jesus? i think they're mostly all christian, though they're not a christian band. keith jones was a much more admirable vocalist then the new guy, "brennan" or whatever.

General Commentsince most of their songs are about talking to God i have a good understanding of what the song is about. "from the look on your face, and the chains about your neck, im willing to bet your a prized possesion" this means the person is anchored down by sin no faith or what ever, and that God cares about him or her. for the rest of the song is about God showing the person how to live the life he wants him or her to live. if im wrong about this let me know lol

General CommentI feel like a lot of songs in general are also meant for you to interpret it in your own way so you can also relate to the song.

Another meaning to this song could be about a girl who's only used to being in bad relationships where they don't treat her how she deserves to be treated. Then one day, this real genuine guy comes along and falls in love with her. Something about her overcomes him and he falls in love at first sight. She starts to fall for him too but she is too scared to give it a try because she feels like it might end up like her other relationships. He then opens up to her and shows her that there are really good people are out there and that he'll prove it to her that he loves her just the way she is and that he will treat her like she deserves to be treated. He then opens up her mind as well as she does to him. Then she ends up finding out what true happiness really feels like. This feeling of love truely makes them feel alive.

General Comment I'm not sure if this band is a Christian band and i can see how their lyrics can be interpreted in a religious song, but I don't think it is about religion.

Before I even read the lyrics understand everything that was being said, this song invoked a feeling of loss and adversity then a feeling of acceptance and solace. When I first heard this song, I was going through a breakup and a death of a best friend. I didn't want to let either of them go, but, after grieving, I knew it was time to move on with life and in order to do this I had to remember all the good times we had and just let go.

When I was able to do this, I felt more alive in my life than ever before.

When I finally got around to reading the lyrics, I discovered that the feeling this song gave me wasn't far off from what the lyrics describe.
