"Ur So Gay" as written by and Katy/wells Perry....
I hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf
While jacking off listening to Mozart
You bitch and moan about LA
Wishing you were in the rain reading Hemingway
You don't eat meat
And drive electrical cars
You're so indie rock it's almost an art
You need SPF 45 just to stay alive

You're so gay and you don't even like boys
No you don't even like
No you don't even like
No you don't even like boys
You're so gay and you don't even like boys
No you don't even like
No you don't even like
No you don't even like

You're so sad maybe you should buy a happy meal
You're so skinny you should really Super Size the deal
Secretly you're so amused
That nobody understands you
I'm so mean cause I cannot get you outta' your head
I'm so angry cause you'd rather MySpace instead
I can't believe I fell in love with someone that wears more makeup than

You walk around like you're oh so debonair
You pull 'em down and there's really nothing there
I wish you would just be real with me

Oh no no no no no no no

General CommentUsing the term "gay" to mean "less than a man" is incredibly insulting. Period. Even worse is that this song will further encourage young people to use "gay" as an insult. It makes me sick.

Also, "ur" for "you're?" Almost as sickening.

General CommentI'm not sure that the people who are offended by her use of the term are accusing her of hating gay people. She probably has a million gay friends who tell her they approve of its use. To be clear, nobody is saying Katy Perry is a bigot.

Nobody is arguing what the song is about, either. I know the song isn't about how she hates gay people. I realize it's meant as a light-hearted stab at an ex-boyfriend. Wonderful. I'm not arguing that at all.

The thing is, she used the term "gay" as an insult. It's not much different than when people scream "Jesus Christ" when they slip in the shower. Yes, she couldn't be more well-meaning. Once again, I'm sure she has a billion gay friends, all of whom approve of the song.

I just don't like that she's going to encourage the 12-year-olds to keep using their already-favorite phrase.

    that line kills me! haha

As for the song, I think it's pretty hilarious, and I agree that you shouldn't take it too literary because it's all just for fun.

General CommentA guy broke up with this lady, so she wrote a song complaining about how he wears makeup. It's a popular song, so it will likely perpetuate gay = bad, and/ or effeminate. She is sure to note, several times, that he "[doesn't] even like boys," which is to say that usually people who act or dress the awful way he does, their excuse is that they're gay. I'm quite sure she has no idea the song is offensive, but how can gay people not be offended when the song implies that effeminate, "fake," or other bad people are usually gay? I mean, really, if a straight guy wearing makeup makes you vomit, shouldn't a gay guy in makeup make you do the same? Should we really say, "Ewww, a guy in makeup!! Sicko!! Wait, he likes men... Never mind!" Ridiculous.

And the reason no one else commented here is that "ur" is not a word. It's "you're."

General CommentSure, Katy Perry may not be homophobic, but that doesn't stop this song from being kinda repulsive.

She's naming a bunch of things that she believes to be negative. And then calls them gay attributes.

This is a person who is a scene kid, obviously. His image is clearly very poser.

But in naming all these fake attributes the guy has, she says that he's acting 'gay'. He doesn't like boys, but he's still acting 'gay' in every other way.

It's perpetuating a stereotype, and encouraging the use of 'gay' as a pejorative.

Sure you may say that words evolve, but that's only when their meanings get superseded. Gay used to mean 'happy', and it doesn't any more. This is obvious. But there is a substantial group who identify themselves as 'gay'. The meaning isn't evolving, it's staying the same, while some people just decide to add another negative meaning onto it.

Katy Perry just seems to perpetuate the rather irritating idea that 'guys kissing is gross, but girls kissing is pretty sweet'.

She just seems rather ignorant is all.

    And seriously a bad lyricist.

"No you don't even like penis?"

Like a bloody twelve year old.

And let's not even get started on her negative views on Mozart, vegetarians and electric cars.

General CommentWhat'd she spend like 5 minutes on these lyrics? Haha, you should eat McDonalds, and you check Myspace, and wear H+M haha. How clever, Katy. And she says PENIS at the end! Haha, get it! Not gay gay, just gay!

General CommentIs it just me or does this song seem like it has to do with Pete Wentz? I'm just sayingg...

"Wishing you were in the rain reading Hemingway" His dogs name is hemingway and he says hes into all his stuff.

"Im so angry cause youd rather MySpace instead
I cant believe I, fell in love with someone that wears more makeup" He's an attention whore and a reference to all the eyeliner he wears?

"You pull 'em down and there's really nothing there" His phone picture "accident"

    "Secretly you're so amused
That nobody understands you" maybe how he always tries to be bad ass?

but i think this song is hilarious, i've had it stuck in my head for the past like three daysss.

General CommentMan, anyone who thinks the use of the word "gay" here is offensive should really just Jew off, and stop being so bloody black about it.
