"I Just Want the Girl in the Blue Dress to Keep on Dancing" as written by and Mike Doughty....
Frat boys gone to dogs
Brawling and sparring
Blue girl, dance for me
The empty floor or nothing
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm

I love your baby fat
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Your crooked nose is where it's at
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm

And I assess the essence of the mess
The perfect hourglass of my loneliness, yes
And I don't care to count my chances
I just want the girl in the blue dress
To keep on dancing

What is this happiness?
Brrmbpdpdmdm
It was not ever thus
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm

I will prevail for you
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Behind the mic I'm burning to
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm
Brrmbpdpdmdm

And yeah, I'm just a zip code man
I got my house and I'll stay in if I can, but I
Don't care to keep my fences
I just want the girl in the blue dress
To keep on dancing

Na na na na na na na, na na na
Na na na na na na na, na na na
Na na na na na na na, na na na

I assess the essence of the mess
The perfect hourglass of my happiness, yes
And I don't care to count my chances
I just want the girl in the blue dress
I just want the girl in the blue dress
I just want the girl in the blue dress
To keep on dancing
To keep on dancing
To keep on dancing
To keep on dancing

General Commenti'm a little disappointed in the way mike doughty is going with more of a pop band instead of acoustic like skittish or altenative like soul coughing. Also his other lyrics seemed to be a little then "Brrmbpdpdmdm"

General CommentThis song is ridiculously addictive. GD is definitely picking up where Haughty Melodic left off. Admittedly, I was, at first, a little put-off by the poppiness, and also the, umm, filler(?) lyrics of this and a couple of other songs (e.g. Put It Down), but the more I listen to the album, the more it grows on me. I really hope this song can turn some people on to Mike Doughty, and esp. this album, cos there are some real gems on this album.

General CommentI felt the same way about the last two albums, until I saw him play live again with the band a last night. The show was amazing, and I finally felt like I understood why he is going in the direction he is. Sometimes the lyrics to his newer stuff seem somewhat contrived, but on the whole it's still geniune and often really good, and his compositions now are better fleshed-out and more mature than the skittish/rockity stuff, IMO. A true poet.

General CommentA lot of Mike Doughty's songs seem to be about strip clubs...
