You're in my arms
And all the world is calm
The music playing on for only two
So close together
And when I'm with you
So close to feeling alive

A life goes by
Romantic dreams must die
So I bid mine goodbye and never knew
So close was waiting, waiting here with you
And now forever I know
All that I want is to hold you
So close

So close to reaching that famous happy end
Almost believing this was not pretend
And now you're beside me and look how far we've come
So far we are so close

How could I face the faceless days
If I should lose you now?
We're so close
To reaching that famous happy end
And almost believing this was not pretend
Let's go on dreaming for we know we are
So close
So close
And still so far

General CommentIf it is not interpreted as a romantic song, perhaps it could be about a birthmother and her newborn baby. The lyrics "You’re in my arms / And all the world is calm / The music playing on for only two" remind me of the moment after birth when you're finally wheeled to the recovery room. She "bid her romantic dreams goodbye" when the birthfather left. She's emotional about looking at this baby who she had been carrying inside her for the last nine months. "How could I face the faceless days / If I should lose you now?" She having second thoughts about giving the baby up for adoption. But in the end, I think she knows it's what is best for the baby. That is why they are "still so far."

General Commentfrom disney's enchanted soundtrack. i can't believe no one has commented on this yet. it's a beautiful song. i think the lyrics are pretty self explanitory. finally finding the right person and never, ever wanting to lose them.

    gorgeous.

General CommentI personally think this is a song of unrequited love or love between two people with some form of barrier in the way. It's about someone that has found the right person and has fallen head over heels in love, but despite this and everything seeming right, it's not quite there yet. Hence the whole 'so close and yet so far'.

General CommentI know the context in which the song was developed, but if you remove it from that context, this song could have greater meaning. It could be applied to any relationship that seemed impossible, and is on the brink of becoming a distinct and positive possibility... Only to be kept out of reach by some particular barrier.

For instance, an relationship of estrangement or unhealthy behavior between a parent and child that is suddenly getting back on track... But then either the parent or child becomes acutely ill or something, thus pre-emptively putting a satisfactory relationship out of reach.

General CommentThe romantic part could simply be a child dreaming of having the picture-perfect family that Disney likes to purport, or something of that nature.

General CommentI see that a relationship that was really strong is suddenly coming to an end, for whatever reason. And he's saying how much he loves her, and how he feels complete with her. Their relationship has endured a lot, and they have been through so much together.... but despite how far they've come, it still has to end. He doesn't want it to end, and is saying he'd rather live on pretending and have her in his life than to be without her.

    *sigh* So touching....

General Commentit's about a couple, who are just ment to be, and he talks about the magic + spark that there is between them, but no matter how strongly they feel for eachother, or how badly they know they are ment to be, there is something stopping them from being together, and no matter what happens, they both know deep down, that they will just never happen, even though they both know how much they love each other

General CommentI think it is a twist on the classic Disney fairytales. When you think of a Disney fairytale, there is always some sort of barrier between the princess and her prince. In Enchanted it was quite obviously the two different women and maybe the different realms in which the couples were from. There is obviously the trademark fantasy of being soul mates, but it's set in the part where they are in that barrier and striving to be together. And it obviously fits the fact that, in the movie, there was a cynical view [Robert] of it all being pretend and he was "so close to believing" but then reality sunk in and his girlfriend comes back. I think the song can be taken in many different ways, mainly depending on whats on your mind, and can hit that spot in different contexts. It's a magical classic.

    General Commentreally beautiful song.

taken out of the context of the movie, i'd say it's about those "almost" relationships, those that could have worked, and become the most beautiful thing in the world. and you're so desperate to see that happen. but in the end nothing comes of it.
