"Monotov's Private Opera" as written by and Stephan Jenkins....
Every moment of your life
Is a chance to get it right
Any moment you've been living in
You could turn it on like a light
All the weight of the years
Has got me burstin' into tears
Standin' here with nothin'
I stand alone inside my fears

Like an atom reveals a deeper state
Well I swear for me tonight
It's not too late

To tell you baby
It's you and only you and no one else
And I'll mean it
Even when I'm talking to myself
I said maybe, it's you and only you and no one else

How I miss Moscow
Those people really know
How to have a good time
In a mixed up state of mind
And Monotov's Private Opera is closed
So I guess I'll go home now
Cause there's no where's else to go

And I will tell you baby
It's you and only you and no one else
And I will mean it
Even when I'm talking to myself
I said baby, it's you and only you and no one else
You and no one else

Now I'm stuck inside a poem
And then I'm walkin by myself
In the dark, all alone
And these actors and dramatists
They won't send me home

Well, maybe I'm like my father
Strung out on something or another
Held to a standard
We were always sinking under
And maybe I'm like my mother
She shattered cause no one loved her
Maybe I, Maybe I am like no other

And some moments are more real than the books I've read
And a good woman, maybe she meant what she said
Cause to feel you now ya know, it goes straight to my head

So I'll tell you baby
It's you and only you and no one else
And I will mean it, even when I'm talkin' to myself
I said baby, it's you and only you and no one else
Talkin' to myself
Talkin' to myself

And everything changed in a day
And I know another one on the way
And I'll tell you
Everything changed in a day
And I know another one is on the way

General CommentI think this is going to be one of my favorite, if not my number one, from the new album.

Talks about all the chances we have in life where we could really make something happen and how its never to late to do something, including telling someone how you feel about them.

    "So I'll tell you baby
It's you and only you and no one else
And I will mean it, even when I'm talkin' to myself"

General CommentI think it is about someone who has been unfaithful, a drinker, miserable, etc. Who wants to clean up his act for his wife/girlfriend, especially when he finds out she's pregnant (There's another one on the way). I just don't get the references to Moscow or the opera...

General CommentDoes anyone think this sounds kind of similar to "I Want You"? Either way, I love this song, my favorite from the new album :)

General CommentThe song alludes to Savva Mamontov. The creator of the Russian Private Opera in Moscow.
His success with the opera led to a triumph in moscow in the late 1800's.
Most likely, it is referring to the way you can change things.
In this sense, Stephen Jenkins was probably thinking that music could change things-- being that he is so passionate about it.

General Commentproof that stephan seems to never lose hope.
there are so many songs about situations in which I'd be letting myself die and he's still saying he'll try again and it's not going to kill him.

General CommentI'm not sure I hear much of a similarity to I Want You other than the fact that they both make it onto the top 10 list for me of Third Eye Blind.
I can't believe there aren't more comments on this song. It is BY FAR my favourite on Ursa Major.

General CommentThis is my favorite song on Ursa Major, no doubt. I've had trouble trying to figure out what it means, but three parts of the song have had me thinking ever since I first listened to it.

"Some moments are more real than the books i've read"

I think what he may be trying to say is that he wasn't prepared for something that happened, and that he's at a loss for a solution. What he thought he knew dosent help him, and that reality has blindsided him.

The second part that got to me is when he repeats "I'm talking to myself" near the end of the song. Think about those lines as if you are really saying this out loud: "And I mean it, even when i'm talking to myself......I'm talking to myself." I thought about this and to me, maybe he is saying that after all that he has been saying in the song, that no one is listening to him. That after all, he really IS talking to himself. Perhaps he went through lots of work to fix somthing, in vain? I know it sounds like a stretch, but I can't help but think that this is the case.

The last part that got to me is the last lines, "Everything changed in a day, and I know another one's on the way." I read the pregnancy thought, that this may be reffering to a new child. That is a very valid point, and could very well be it's meaning. But when I first heard it, especially after thinking about why he repeated "I'm talking to myself", I began to think that this may be his way of saying "Oh, well, tommorrow's a new day", as if to say that "another one's on the way" refers to tommorrow. Something has changed his life on this day that he didn't expect (some moments are more real than the books i've read), and he's gearing himself up for this new beginning, seeing tommorrow as an opportunity to expound on it.
