General CommentSo...I'm assuming people know that this song is originally sung by Jacques Brel in the 60's?

    General Commentrough translation:
Goodbye Émile I liked you a lot
Goodbye Émile I liked you a lot you know
    We sang the same wines
    We sang the same girls
    We sang the same grief(s)

Goodbye Émile I'm going to die
It's hard dieing in the spring, you know
But I leave (at/to) the flowers peace in my soul
Cause look/we saw that you are good like white bread
I know you will take care of my girl/wife

    I wish we would laugh
    I wish we would dance
I wish we would have fun like crazies
    I wish we would laugh
    I wish we would dance
When will they put me in the hole

Goodbye Curé I liked you a lot
Goodbye Curé I liked you a lot you know
We were not on the same side
We were not on the same path
But we searched for the same port

Goodbye Curé I'm going to die
It's hard dieing in the spring, you know
But I leave (at/to) the flowers peace in my soul
Cause look/we saw that you are their confidant
I know you will take care of my girl/wife

    I wish we would laugh
    I wish we would dance
I wish we would have fun like crazies
    I wish we would laugh
    I wish we would dance
When will they put me in the hole

Goodbye Antoine I didn't like you a lot
Adieu l'Antoine I didn't like you a lot you know
    I'm dieing to die today
    While you are well alive
And even more solid than boredom

Goodbye l'Antoine I'm going to die
It's hard dieing in the spring, you know
But I leave (at/to) the flowers peace in my soul
Cause look/we saw that you were his lover
I know you will take care of my girl/wife

    I wish we would laugh
    I wish we would dance
I wish we would have fun like crazies
    I wish we would laugh
    I wish we would dance
When will they put me in the hole

Goodbye my girl I liked you a lot
Goodbye my girl I liked you a lot you know
But I'm taking the train for the good lord
I'm taking the train that is before yours
But we all take the train that we can

Goodbye my girl I'm going to die
It's hard dieing in the spring, you know
But I leave (at/to) the flowers, eyes close my girl
'Cause you see I have them closed often
I know you will take care of my soul

    I wish we would laugh
    I wish we would dance
I wish we would have fun like crazies
    I wish we would laugh
    I wish we would dance
When will they put me in the hole

General CommentLe moribond means the deing person in french, and in the song he is saying goodbye to people he cares about, and regret for not being more spontaneos in life.

General CommentI agree, he's going to die and he's saying goodbye to all the people in his life. I think Émile is his best friend/'partner in crime'. The person with whom he drank the same wine, courted the same girls, and shared the same sorrows.

I think Curé is his priest. They followed vastly different paths through life, but both wanted the same fate in the end (i.e. heaven).

Antoine would be his enemy (I mean, come on, he actually says 'I didn't like you a lot', which could be taken to mean 'I hated you'), perhaps even his woman's lover (in which case one of the lines should read 'cause look/we saw that you were HER lover).

The last verses are obviously his wife or girlfriend.

Just my take on this amazing song.
