General Commentmacumba is a religion, but it do has something related to black magic. it came from Africa and became popular in Brazil.

"bat" is a reference to batman. (no, really.)

the tropicalia is about mixing brasilian culture (e.g. the macumba) with american and european culture (e.g. the batman) and a lot of irony.

hard to explain, but you can see it all in the song.

ps.: it has nothing to do with a bat-like god.

General CommentWell macumba does mean something along the lines of 'black magic' as far as I know. I was never clear on what 'bat' signified here. I do know that the way the lyrics look written out is a reference to concrete poetry, which is a form of poetry where the words written form symbolic shapes, and which was largely invented in Brazil.
