O, Katrina! Why you gotta be mean?
You saw a highway down in New Orleans
I can't believe what I saw on the TV screen
O, Katrina! Why could you be so mean?

O, Katrina! (O, Katrina!)
O, Katrina! (O, Katrina!)
O, Katrina! (O, Katrina!)
Why you gotta be mean
(O, Katrina!)
Why you gotta be...

O, Katrina! Why you gotta be mean?
You saw a highway down in New Orleans
I can't believe what I saw on the TV screen
O, Katrina! Why could you be so mean?

O, Katrina! (O, Katrina!)
O, Katrina! (O, Katrina!)
O, Katrina! (O, Katrina!)
Why you gotta be mean?
(O, Katrina!)
Why you gotta be mean now

My OpinionLove how they talk about Katrina as if can reason things wrong or right, like it can just be like man I shouldn't do this to these people. The way they sing about it in this almost happy tone, like the words are almost sarcastic. Or the singer feels somewhat stupid for trying to reason with nature. The way the song is put together with the bass in the beginning is like slow a creeping storm, and as the song continues the solo's get faster and hectic until the singer is almost tired of asking why its gotta be mean, because ultimately he knows Katrina is never gonna explain why it did what it did to New Orleans. The whole song itself is a hurricane to me beginning to end. I love songs like this that I can just use my imagination to give a song that has almost a self explanatory meaning, something more, even if I know I'm not right it's worth listening to a good song on repeat and really getting into the vibe the song has.

General Commenti'm thinking this is kind of poking fun of the american tradition of demonizing natural occurances..like 'katrina, you bastard!'..you know, it's a hurricane; it's more natural than a sub-sea-level superpopulated city. not that the deaths aren't at all tragic; it's just that to try to place the blame on the big mean hurricane is kinda ridiculous. although that explanation seems a lil too serious for the black lips. they some ironic ass sonsobitches.
