"N.O.D." as written by and Philip Hansen/brown Anselmo....
Sick of a sickness, a reoccurring nightmare of
Convulsing through slow tempo dance
Liberation requiem, stamped out curriculum
Oh, that doppelganger laughing, manifesting wings

The dark side, the dark side
Drop trip

Lost on a trip, no acid can supply
Because L.S.D. ain't what it used to be for me
Inside of dead weight standing, speaking with authority
Black smoke is swirling upward masking

The dark side, misanthropy skin deep
The dark side, the children of extremes
The dark side, will warn a fool indeed
The dark side, you'll have to carry that weight

You fight, you will fight
Against the strands, so ill advised

The dark side, misanthropy skin deep
The dark side, the children of extremes
The dark side, will warn a fool indeed
The dark side, you'll have to carry that weight

I'll fight, I will fight
Against the strands, so ill advised

We'll never know when
Someday will bring our own
Sudden

Last time, last time, last time, last time
Last time

I'll fight
You say you want a revolution
I'll fight
You say you want a revolution
I will fight, I will fight
And carry that weight

You say you want a revolution
I'll fight
You say you want a revolution
I will fight, I will fight
And carry that weight

General CommentDUN DUN DOOO DUN DUN DOOO DROP TRIP, DUNDNUD god this song owns me, YOU SAY YOU WANT A REVOLUTIONNNNNNNNN

    I love Down officially!

As for the song meaning...well knowing Phil it's probably got something to do with drugs...but don't quote me on that, Phil was always quite cryptic (the best lyricist ever!)

General CommentNodistic Order of Destruction is something science fiction-oriented, which may leave that idea in the dust.

I'd guess it's number 1. It sounds like a drug song to me!

Those lines alone are pure genius. And this song is so fucking wicked. I'm clueless on the overall meaning, though.

My InterpretationI'm thinking the title corresponds to Christianity's Night Of Darkness (darkening of the soul). It's about how even God's brightest followers hit a devastating "ceiling of brass" with their prayers, particularly when struggling to reform this inarguably corrupted planet of ours for the better. The songwriter is telling us he's ready to fight past that ceiling of brass; our hopelessness in this life. True reform will never happen. We need to scrap the current system and pimp-slap any punks that have a problem with that. Together. Enough is enough. I'd carry that weight with Phil any day. On march the saints!
