"Clean Breaks" as written by and Christopher Andrew Carrabba....
I believe in clean breaks, I keep the old troubles away

But you're making sure
I was lying when I said

"I can leave
This behind"

I need you to ruin me
For this, finally
'Cause it's burying me

Now, I'm in these old knots
Each move keeps me locked away

With each new embrace
I have tied myself up

More tightly
Into you

Oh, but the more I fight
Then the deeper I'm trapped
And I can't break free of this hold that you have

And I crave you more
Under the heat of your touch
And I need your skin

To ruin me
For this wicked town
Where your ghosts are bound
To me

One last sacrifice
Of this ritual escape

I was lying when I said
"I believe,
in clean breaks"

General CommentThe lyrics are wrong. The line is "But you're making sure I was lying when I said I CAN leave this behind" (not "can't").

The breakup with this girl has ruined his idea that he'd be able to have a clean break and just walk away. He misses her and can't forget about her. He always remembers her.

My InterpretationThis song pertains to the dynamic elements of love lost: how we never ultimately escape our past. That someone lives vividly in our memories, sometimes we cannot help but walk down those familiar paths and grace those familiar curves in hopes of being renewed or finding some kind of redemption. "Clean breaks," are not always possible, Carabba cunningly omits this. Romantic in tone, it's as if Carabba realizes revolting against your emotions is futile. Carabba, the love auteur, eloquently lays down yet another intimate truth

General CommentThis song is like about a guy who wants to
get out of this relationship as just a mutual
break-up,but as he thinks more and
more about it, and comes closer, and closer to doing it
he realizes how much he loves her,and why he was with her in the first place.

General CommentPerfect break up song. Even when you're denying that you can make a clean cut it doesn't work. There are always two options - realising why you were in love and staying with the one you got being happy - or - and that's what means the last paragraph to me - leaving is always hard, there are noch clean breaks. The last sentence saying "I was lying when I said i believe in clean breaks" perfectly fits to it. Having a friendship after that is too difficult for both sides so there won't be a clear break. Even the person who breaks up has to fight this touching moments to get a clean break. Giving up a person you love will be always a kind of losing what you believed in. I think the lyrics express this emotion quite well.

General Commentsuch an emotional song, i agree with everyone that it is about a realtionship in which he is still in love with the girl, but he loves he so much and he knows that the relationship is over so he need her ro "ruin" him, to break him down so that he no longer loves her, the only way for hm to stop loving her is for her to hurt him so he cant like her any more, im my opinion.
