"Annie" as written by James Hillier Blount and Jimmy Hogarth....
Annie, you had your name in the bright lights
I thought I saw your photograph
having such a laugh, in a magazine
Did it all come tumbling?

Then Annie, you were made for the big time
They said you were a star to be
In the NME
But the walls came tumbling down
Down
Will you go down on me?

Cause Annie you're a star
You're just not going very far
And all the world will know your name
And you'll be famous as you are
Cause I'll sing for you

Annie, would it be nice to be recognized?
Did you practice your autograph?
But now no ones asked
And it's such a shame
Your dreams are crumbling

Annie, why aren't you big in limelight?
Cause I thought that you said you'd be
A celebrity several years ago
But it all came tumbling down
Down
Will you go down on me?

Cause Annie you're a star
You're just not going very far
And all the world will know your name
And you'll be famous as you are
Cause I'll sing for you

Annie you're a star
You're just not going very far
And all the world will know your name
And you'll be famous as you are
Cause I'll sing for you

Annie you're a star
You're just not going very far
And all the world will know your name
And you'll be famous as you are
Cause I'll sing for you

General CommentPer an interview with James Blunt...

Q: "Annie" is a very passionate song. Is that a true story?
A: Yeah, it is. We tell our children now that success is measured by fame and money. It's one person's story where they start out on their journey and try to find happiness through fame, and [eventually] find it through something of greater meaning."

General CommentHis question 'will you go down on me?' seems to imply that he has basically found this washed up person and told her he will sing about her if she gives him head.

She must have gave him head cuz now he's singing about her.

General CommentI realise that the actual artist might have said something different, so what I'm saying now is perhaps a little pointless... for me however the song seems pretty spiteful. It's almost like he's gloating over this poor girl who just wanted to be famous.

General CommentI think it's about a girl who always said she was going to be famous when she was a kid. She thought she was going to make it big with her picture in the magazines, signing autographs for screaming fans and having everyone know her name. Maybe she got her dream for a little while, but something must have gone wrong because now she's moping about spoiled plans and I think he's trying to comfort her by telling her that she's a star to him.

General CommentAnnie, would it be nice to be recognised?
    Did you practice your autograph?
    But now no one's asked
    And it's such a shame
    That the dreams are crumbling
Annie, why aren't you bathing in the limelight?
'Cause I thought that you said you'd be a celebrity several years ago
Did it all came tumbling down, down?
Will you go down on me?

It does seem as though he's gloating over her, asking all those questions, but maybe this "Annie" was very full of herself at the beginning, and he's shoving it in her face for never making it. That is just my guess, but this is one of my favorite songs on this album.
