"Abnegation" as written by Bjorn Gelotte, Anders Friden and Jesper Stromblad....
We believe but we are deceased
Or rather soon to be
I act surprised
Abused in the seas
It's just enough to feed the trees

We believe but we are not free
This wasteland is our prison
I act surprised
I see the bones through your skin
This radiation from within

I grant you
This torn land, I'd rather not live here anymore
I grant you
This torn land, I'd rather not live here anymore

We believe but we can't see
The coming of the storm
I act surprised
There's warnings from time to time
Signs of our only crime

We are the scum of the earth
We plunder and rape
We can't see the new breed
But act like its ours to take

I grant you
This torn land, I'd rather not live here anymore
I grant you
This torn land, I'd rather not live here anymore

We believe but we don't see

I grant you
This torn land, I'd rather not live here anymore
I grant you
This torn land, I'd rather not live here anymore

I grant you
This torn land, I'd rather not live here anymore
I grant you
This torn land, I'd rather not live here anymore

General CommentThe part that you couldnt make out, i've been sitting here and trying to hear it all. This is what i think it is:

We are the scum and [wierd word here]
    we plunder and rape
We cant see the new breed
but act like its ours to take

There is however one word i cant make out. Maybe someone else can. And I cant say for sure that this is the real deal though.. like the "breed" word. It can be any other word that sounds like that, but is spelt different, meaning the word has another meaning.

General CommentI think Anders actually sings "I clench you, this torment, i'd rather not live in anymore" and not "grant". Well my bad.

General Commentany torrent site, i guess.

And yes, i really like it too :). However, its just a demo, so it might not even sound like this when its finally released. But indeed, soundtrack to your escape is my favorite album, so if it has the same style i would be happy!

I dont really see that happen though, since they change their style from album to album (thats a good thing). But i think it will be awesome like all the rest of their work :).

General CommentGo to In Flames' Myspace, they put up a new verison of Abnegation, and it's easier to hear the lyrics.

    Having heard this...

This is what I hear in the chorus. I am almost 100% sure that it's correct...
    "I clench you,
It's torn and I'd rather not live here anymore."

I think "but are deceased" is actually "we are DISEASED" too. I'm certain about that one.

Yep, Felidire, I think it is definitely "We are the scavengers".

As I said, have a listen to the new version...

General CommentI just listened to the new version, and yes, indeed, it is Scavangers :).

And for the "deceased" part, i have always thought it was diseased, but its hard to find out really. Both of the words kinda fit in the text.

General CommentThe phrase everyone is wondering about is probably,
"We are the scum of the earth"
    Like, Nomorningafter thinks.

And I think the chorus is actually,
"I grant you - this torment and I'd rather not live here anymore."
Just a couple thoughts. if you have compared Anders lyrics to what he is actually saying. It's usually not what it sounds like.
Like in Cloud Connected, "Time runs backwards as a long as you're running that way." sounds nothing like how he screams it.

General CommentOk, enough of this nonsense :P This is not whatdoeshesay.net It's songMEANINGS.net , so lets discuss the song shall we?
I think this song is about the Earth's future. It's about our climate and the poles are melting and so on.

We believe but we are diseased
    Or rather soon to be
    I act surprised
    Abused in the seas
It's just enough to feed the trees

We - humans - are not diseased... yet. But human kind will soon die if we continue to abuse the forest, the sea and the earth.

We believe but we are not free
    This wasteland is our prison
    I act surprised
I see the bones through your skin
    This radiation from within

The Earth will become a wasteland, acting like our prison, because when earth is barren because of overheating and the sea level 100-200 meters higher than normal, we cannot fly to another planet and live on. It will be our prison because we-humans are bound to Earth.
And I think the "I act surprised" line, is about the dumb people who don't believe in overheating and when that happens.... Booooom, animal will die because their enviroment changes and humans wont have animals to feed on. Dumb people will say"What a surprise"or "I didn't know that", but it's all logic.
And the radiation part is about chemical pollution, I think.

It's torn and I'd rather not live here anymore

I think Anders is singing about the Earth.

    We are the scavengers
    We plunder and rape
We can't see the new breed
But act like its ours to take

We abuse the Earth, so our grand-grand-grand children don't have the same opportunities we had. The new breed is our children.

We believe but we don't see

If we don't see the severe changes our Earth is going through right now, everything in this song MAY happen or maybe WILL happen. Think of the next generation!
