Don't come to me with forevers
I love you more with each new day
But there is nothing everlasting
And death blows promises away

Don't tell me I don't have no secrets
There's still a place I want to be
There's still a path I haven't wandered
But I'm afraid of where it leads
Let me hold your hands, your arms, your sides,
The small of your back,
Your shoulders, and your wrists
Your thighs, your ankles, and then
Find my way inside

You say I don't deserve the motions
That my devotion is untrue
You say I got to find my place
But my place is inside of you
So don't be hasty in your judgement
Don't pull a bag over my head
There are many here who hunger
And there are many who despair

Lay down your arms, your hair, your gown
The scroll of your spine
Hand me your head, your waist, your breath
Your nipples and then,
Find my way inside

General Commenti find this reminiscent of "to is coy mistress" by marvell. it seems to be to be a poem of seduction. he is telling her, just as the speaker in "to his coy mistress," that they shouldn't waste time and their youth, but throw themselves into love and its passion.

General CommentA seductive yet sweet song. It made me wonder how Leonard Cohen would sing it; it seems like it would be a song he would write. The music is slow yet inviting. The singer almost talks his way through the song. He tells someone that life is about today, and when she pushes him away he reminds her that they belong together. He wants to be inside her, both physically and emotionally...to be let in and embraced. He almost begs not to be pushed away yet he does it in such an easy slow tone that it's obvious he's sincere. These have to be the most visually and emotionally seductive words in any song: "Lay down your arms, your hair, your gown. The scroll of your spine. Hand me your head, your waist, your breath. Your nipples and then, find my way inside." As you listen you can visualize his hands on her as she drops her guard; the slow almost methodical caresses; his hands touching her as she releases her fears and doubts; his breathing life into her; and the warmth generated by their bodies as they forget the rest of the world and come together in the moment to create one being. There is nobody else and no other sound in the room...just the two of them entwined. They are connected in that moment; he's inside her. It's not a song about sex. It's a song of emotional union expressed though the flesh.
