"A Letter From Janelle" as written by and Haley....
We make the sun shine, we make
A morning
Move with me, move with me

Don't you think I could tell
That you were trying to, trying to
Make a fool out of me, a fool out of me

Don't you think I could tell
That you were trying to, trying to
Make a fool out of me, a fool out of me

To remember who you really are

It's so easy to get lost in constantly
Having to preserve whatever face you believe
A person wants to see, rather than your own

Yet we hesitate to surrender all of our insecurities
Move with me, move with me
Only the ones we are most comfortable relinquishing
Move with me, move with me

Don't you think I could tell
That you were trying to, trying to
Make a fool out of me, a fool out of me

Don't you think I could tell
That you were trying to, trying to
Make a fool out of me, a fool out of me

Such a paradox, isn't it, isn't it?
Such a paradox, isn't it, isn't it?
Such a paradox, isn't it, isn't it?

Such a paradox, isn't it, isn't it?
Such a paradox, isn't it, isn't it?
Such a paradox, isn't it, isn't it?
Isn't it, isn't it? Isn't it, isn't it?

General Commenti think this song, for one, is amazing.
this entire CD is beautiful and completely genious.
a little more dance-able than previous ones?

i think this song is about a relationship where a guy knows he's being played and just acts stupid about it.
also, i think it's saying that you can make yourself believe whatever you want about a person.
like, if you build them up in your mind how you want them to be, you'll believe it if you want to.
he's not being true to himself because he's putting up a front of "not knowing" what's really going on.

General CommentPlease try not to hate on this idea.. i just want to share a thought that came to mind. I think its a good one, and it makes a lot of sense to me. I'm very aware that a girl sent Craig a letter.. and this song is the letter. BUT I think this song could be about being transgendered (not identifying with your given GENDER) if you don’t know the difference between being transsexual and transgendered or the difference between sex and gender, then I really recommend googling it.. i really relate to a lot of the words in this song.. Almost every line can be connected.. Its such a paradox eh? having the mind of a male and a female; it doesn't seem possible.

So ill start with this.. "to remember who you really are" I am always reminded of who I am, and what I have been, and what society sees me as. "it's so easy to get lost in constantly, Having to PRESENT(not preserve) whatever face you believe a person wants to see, rather than your own" I know I act like a girl a lot.. and i hide that part of me almost all the time in public, until I'm with the people i love. "Yet we hesitate to surrender all of our insecurities" "Only the ones we are most comfortable relinquishing". Then the big kicker is this: Craig starts singing at the end of the song "its such a paradox isn't it, isn't it?" he repeats this many times, then he said "its such a paradox, isn't HE, isn't SHE." (he said this once).. Referring to two genders and that it’s a paradox.

Btw I’m listening to the acoustic version of the song. In the original, Craig does NOT make the variation "it's such a paradox, isn't HE? isn't She?”. This variation is in the acoustic version of the song.. Which makes me think he wanted people to get a better grip of what the song is about.. So he made that slight variation. People are taking this whole "letter from Janelle" to literally.. There’s meaning behind this letter. It’s not a simple hardship between two people. I’m very convinced.

The whole ”don’t you think I could, that you were trying to make a fool out of me” Is Jannelle telling Craig.. She probly assumed the worst about the situation when she saw Craigs real face.. A more “feminine” version.. She may have thought he was just trying to make a fool out of her(like he wasn’t serious.. just wanted to have some fun).. Idk… This is iffy. Just try and stay open to the idea. NO ONE really knows Craig and what goes on in his mind on a daily basis. Only Craig does.

Believe me, no one would ever guess im transgendered.. but its true.

I’m not the best at organizing my ideas, sorry if this wasn't well written.
Thank you for reading my post.

General Commentthe lyrics come from an actual letter from a girl named Janelle. Craig said in an AP interview that she summed things up better than he could, so he lifted the words from the letter.

I think this is the best song the band has ever written. It's light years ahead of everything in the past.

General CommentI think the song is about the writer and his signifigant other, he knows hes being cheated on and yet he doesnt tell his girlfriend what he knows. In the end I think he is also cheating on his girl. and she is the one who has to find out....
Its and ironic song. Well in my opinion it is at least. Anyways, I love the new album and Chiodos are the best!

General Commenti dont know about this being taken from a letter written by a girl named janelle. lines like "trying to make a fool out of me" and a whole bunch of other lines are scattered in all the songs coming from a poem by bukowski, and bukowski's book of poems is also called bone palace ballet. so...

General Commenti think this song has one of two meanings:
    1) i agree with Quit_lollygagging, it cood be about how he knows that his significant other cheating on him, but he doesn't want to tell her... he might only suspect the cheating thought, so he doesnt want to create any problems by confronting her, so he just sits back....
    2) the singer's sigificant other is just pretending to be in love with him, but is isnt really anymore and is just with him for maybe the status of in a relationship(they dont want to be single)...

maybe also..... the other person is having doubts about their relationship and he knows it... and he says "dont fool me i kno u dont think we can make it." in the part:

to remember who you really are.
it's so easy to get lost in constantly having to present,
whatever face you believe a person wants to see,
    rather than your own.

yet we hesitate, to surrender all of our insecurities...(move with me, move with me)
only the ones we are most comfortable relinquishing.(move with me, move with me)

maybe in the 2nd verse, he is saying that if ur having doubts, just talk to me and we can work this out because i don't want to give up on u....

OR a more literal approach.....(written by the girl -- chiodos says so in mos their songs--AP interview)
The write is in a relationship. they are happy where they are... and the writer has to move (maybe for work) or they dont even live with each other yet... well the singer wants the other one to live with them or move with them... anyways the person the song is about says they want to but doesnt have their whole heart in it and the writer can tell that the other person isnt secure or completly sure about if they want to or not....

General Commentit is a letter from a girl that genuinely cares about her friend. she watches him get caught up in a world of "yes men," superficial ass holes and fakes. she fears that his line of work will change him. she wrote this letter to keep him from getting lost. THATS ALL.

General Commentwhere are you people getting the whole cheating and relationship thing? you should read the lyrics in the book. and umm HELLO craig (the singer) literally said in an interview that this song was a lettter written to him by a girl he dated. he even stated that she wrote him this letter to remind him of who he is. obviously her words meant enough to him to make them into a song. i still dont get where you kids are getting this whole cheating bit.

adroitone and standupjack you are soo correct. =)

General Commenti got that the writer is in love with a someone who constantly acts one way to "those hundreds" the writer is reminding the person to sit down and let go of the facade and figure themselves out, the paradox is that we disregard honest feelings and continue following these "insecurities"
