Now this is who we are
I am no one
I am no one's hero
I am no one

For we are not the giant men
That some may think
You are faithful when we are not
So I'd like to tell this story the way it is meant to be

Without the burden that's in our hearts
None of us would have ever found you
You are faithful when we are not
You began a work that only you can complete

Now this is who we are
I'll never know the answers
And I'll always wonder why

Now this is who we are
I'll never know the answers
And I'll always wonder why

Why we're given grace we'll never deserve?
And a second chance that we will never earn
For there is nothing I can do to save myself
For there is nothing I can do

Now this is who we are
I'll never know the answers
And I'll always wonder why

Now this is who we are
I'll never know the answers
And I'll always wonder why
And I'll always and I'll always wonder why

Now this is who we are
I'll never know the answers
And I'll always wonder why

You have let me start again
I'd rather be called weak
Than die thinking I was strong

This is my favorite AILD song. I love the meaning and the piano part at the end gives me chills! I love it!!

I think he says, "And I've always wondered why," instead of, "And I'll always wonder why." I don't know. It sounds like both.

i considered that, but in the line before that he says "I'll", obviously referring to the future, so i went with that

This is a brilliant song. The piano outro adds so much to it, and the vocals are incredible. Speaking of which, is that Tim singing in the chorus? Because Josh isn't credited for this track in the album liner notes, and that's definitely a new voice.

Lyrically, I think this is the same areas that As I Lay Dying like to focus on. Human beings are thoughtless, selfish and undeserving of God's grace, and yet, he continues to bestow it upon us. So Tim is saying that he will embrace this redemption with open arms, adding that he doesn't care how weak others may ridicule him as.

xNo.Transitory, I was wondering the same thing. No one (other than Tim) is credited to the clean vocals just like Nothing Left.

Also I heard Tim was trying to streer away from Christian related lyrics on this album, for fear of alienating (sp?) some of their fans.

TheJesus, you couldn't be further away from the truth, with this album Tim deliberately focusses on the difference between us Christians and the rest of the world (An Ocean between us). This album is by far their most 'Christian' album,

Thats why this is their best album, thus far. Anyway whoever is singing in those two songs (Nothing Left and This is who we are) should sing a lot more.

This song specifically means a lot to me as the youth of today does not know who they are or were they fit in, As I Lay Dying knows exactly that, we are lost and without God's grace and mercy we are nothing. There is a lot of question that we will never know the asnswers of but as Tim said, I'd rather be called week than die thinking i was strong...

just because it's their "most christian" album doesnt mean it's their best. yeah it's excellent, but frail words collapse was really good too with ripe, new material at the time. and it was raw as fuck. but anyways, yes Lambesis sings on Nothing Left and This Is Who We Are

i cant believe only six people have commented on this song so far. its one of the best ever, i especially like how they end each chorus with a low scream in addition to the clean vocals.

Just a shot in the dark, but I think this song might be about accepting undeserved salvation from God.

    as the bible itself says...

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
