Breaking up in the station, a final train
I don't even know if I'll ever see you again
Is it a choice that we even have?

Bang bang down on the piano 'til I smash the keys
Living alone with the melodies
Everything's gone and I don't know where

And the rule of thumb don't apply anymore
'Cause the house is burning

Trying to pull myself away
I'm caught in a pattern and I can't escape
Trying to pull myself away

Lately when I get lost there's this thing I know
Even the dogs have somewhere to go
Everything comes if you just let it be

Work, work, brighten the corners that will never see
Untangle the thoughts that you know what they mean
I hope that the answer doesn't come too late

And the rule of thumb don't apply on me
'Cause the tables are turning

Trying to pull myself away
I'm caught in a pattern and I can't escape
Trying to pull myself away
I'm caught in a pattern and I can't escape
Can't escape

Trying to pull myself away (everything's gone)
Trying to pull myself away (everything's gone)

General CommentA song specifically written for the movie "Once".

If you've seen the movie, you'll know it pretty much describes the situation that Boy and Girl find themselves in.

General CommentYeah, it was written for "Once," but this is a really great song. It moves well rhythmically with a surprisingly upbeat rocking tempo (given the rest of the soundtrack) and while the message might be simple, it harnesses a passion lyrically and vocally that many have felt in love lost: "Trying to pull myself away/ I'm caught in a pattern I can't escape." I mean, how doesn't that describe the complexity of all breakups? I live in a town with lots and lots and then lost more train stations and fuck if I haven't had breakups and last moments of fleeting love at so many of these places; the pain expressed in this song nails it.
