Call me a temptress.
Call me a whore.
That's just a price tag. I'm not for sale.
Don't be so obvious, it's so unnattractive, you know.

You're singing in your sleep.
This won't feel right at all in the morning.

But I still have your kiss, and soft skin.

You're singing in your sleep.
This won't feel right at all in the morning.

Don't play detective now.
You can try but you won't find a trace.
It's a sin to have these eyes.
Well, God blessed me with good taste.

The shadows come from under the ground, they sweep you off your feet.
As soon as the sun sets, the fucking earth sinks.

You're singing in your sleep.
This won't feel right at all in the morning.

Just to add another interpretation to this phrase, it seems to me that "the shadows" could be referencing the devil or demons, an allusion which appears in other songs on the album. "they sweep you off your feet" could be talking about how easy it is to succumb to these forces. The next line, "the fucking earth sinks" could mean that once the killer is being controlled by these forces, hell on earth commences, or earth sinks to hell (following the idea that hell is underground).

I do not think that the killer is actually a pastor. One definition for the term is "a person having spiritual care of a number of people". Maybe the killer considers himself such a "pastor" and he does harm to the victoms as a way of purifying them from their sins and devilish behavior. This fits the demon interpretation above. Also, from Drawing the Devil, in the line, "the devil's own hand was knotted by the pastor" could mean that the hand of the victom, or the devil as viewed by the killer, was knotted by the killer, who viewed himself as a pastor. To say that, I must say that I think "knotted" means that he put that ring on her finger, as in "tying the knot". Maybe he considered her his "wife" and this prostitute was trying to tempt him away.

General Commenti'm not really sure about this one at all. this is obviously the murderer talking, again.

    Don't play detective now.
You can try but you won't find a trace.
It's a sin to have these eyes.
Well, God blessed me with good taste.

im getting the feeling that this song is about the murderer picking up a hooker or something, who may be catching on to his tendencies the more time she spends with him? no idea.

General Commentgod blessed me with good taste=how he figured out his wife or w/e was cheating on him. 'her lips tasted different' well that imo neway...
But I still have your kiss, and soft skin=even after he kills her he has the body

This won't feel right at all in the morning-he feels guilty, at least all morning? idk

General CommentThis song makes me think of necrophilia..

And this line really confuses me:

'The shadows come from under the ground, they sweep you off your feet.
As soon as the sun sets, the fucking earth sinks.'

    "

That whole bit is about how she's a prostitute.

    "You're singing in your sleep.
This won't feel right at all in the morning."

He slit her throat in her sleep..

"Well, God blessed me with good taste."

I'm guessing he has good taste in the women he kills.

    But I don't get this..

The shadows come from under the ground, they sweep you off your feet.
As soon as the sun sets, the fucking earth sinks.

Shadows arive when the sun sets.. I don't get the whole earth sinks part..

General CommentI don't get the "but I still have your kiss and soft skin" part

the shadows part could be referencing the cops who are trying to catch him (therefore following his every move (murder) like a shadow) and the cops sweep her off her feet (i guess like the coroner puts her in a bodybag and takes her away)
the whole earth sinks part maybe like media coverage from around the world
like how there are tip lines to catch serial killers like i mean if a serial killer is lose in texas in canada we still hear about it and we get the tip line number

    its just a guess

General CommentMike I like your idea for the shadows part. Pretty creative. The earth sinking part is really confusing. The only comparison I can think of that makes sense is like, when the sun sets, or at night, people suddenly start doing all the 'sinful' things that they hide during the day. Like hiring hookers for example. They 'sink' morally.

I really wish there was a forum for this whole event on DDG's site or something so we didn't all have to abuse the song meanings site. =P

General Commenti think "the fucking earth sinks" part could be about the killer.

how the whole world is sinking at night because he only kills at night, or something like that....

    idk

He's sayin he find these hookers attractive. And then sarcasticly sayin what do you expect? God blessed me with good taste.

"The shadows come from under the ground, they sweep you off your feet.
As soon as the sun sets, the fucking earth sinks"

Ya'll are thinkin too hard lol.
    It's like...
"Shadows come from under the ground and sweep you off your feet"-Like when youre swep off your feet, you're on your back, like when your having sex.
It's being dramatic. Like as soon as it's dark outside erones like sexin.

"As soon as the sun sets, the fucking earth sinks"- It's like when it becomes night erone tends to lose their morals. "sinks" getting low. Low as in fuckin a hooker. It's fun at the moment, but in the morning it feels wrong.
