"Invisible" as written by Greg Tribbett and Otep Shamaya....
Dress like we do,
Speak like we do,
Think like we do

Obey...

Beneath the cold sun
Watching you walk away
Where my terror runs
In rivers so decayed

I am invisible...
I'm in this mood for days...
Teeth on every wall...
That never go away.

I'm made of blades and flame...
I'm sick and dangerous...
You're my favorite prey
'Cause I hurt the ones I love.

[Chorus]
You're so lovely when you cry.
You're so perfect when you lie.
You can be my crucifix,
Hold me up to watch me die.

Can't you see?
I'm invisible...

Beneath the Pagan moon
One more prey dies today.
On sheets of flesh and doom
Shivering in endless shade like criminals...
The stain still remains
And I promise you, it never goes away.

[Chorus]

Behold,
Feast your eyes as the peripherals explode.

Can you see me now? (2x)

The ugly will resign
When the young blood eats the light.
And one day,
this pain could save your life.

[Chorus]

Living in the shelter,
Lying here alive...
We're painting submission
Across the shadowed sky...

Fire on the sides,
Burned and bright, has arrived
Lost in flight, on golden molted wings

Now do you see?
Now do you...
Now do you see?

Mama, don't cry...
I'm leaving his life...
It's not your fault.
It's not your fault.

Paid for our sins,
You protected us then...
And saved us all.

I make this vow,
I promise you now

He'll never touch us again...
He'll never touch us again...
He'll never touch us again...

General CommentAfter "You can be my crucifix", and before "Hold me up to watch me die", you can hear "You never saw it coming, You never knew what hit you". Maybe it helps :P

General CommentI'm not sure what the entire song means yet but the lyrics "Feast your eyes as the peripherals explode, can you see me now" means

watch as all the nonessential unimportant explode can you see me now
if all the peripherals or unimortants are gone and she is still there then what does that make her i'll get back to you on more

General CommentI'm probably only skimming the top of the meaning of this song. I'm sure there is a deeper meaning to this song, but everytime I listen to it I get the same feeling. So whether or not this is what Otep intended the listener to feel, this is what the song means to me.

To me this song is about when everything just goes to shit and you can't deal with it anymore and take it out on everyone else. Even those you love dearly.

    "I am invisible...
I'm in this mood for days..."

    "You're my favorite prey
'Cause I hurt the ones I love.

You're so lovely when you cry.
You're so perfect when you lie."

    "Can't you see?
    I'm invisible..."

It sounds as if she's saying you can't help me, nor understand how I feel, so I can't help but take it out on you, and it's not my fault because I'm invisible to you.

    "The stain still remains
And I promise you, it never goes away."

The fact that she can't deal with all of it is still there, bothering her. Hurting her.

    "Fire on the sides,
    Burned and bright, has arrived
Lost in flight, on golden molted wings."

    "Can you see me now?"
    "Now do you see?"

Something bad has happened as a result of this need of help and her loved one realises only now that she's feeling like this and that she needs help somehow, but it's too late.

General CommentI think this song is about conformity,

    Dress like we do,
    Speak like we do,
    Think like we do.

    Obey...

i think its saying do what we say and obey or youll face the concequences. its kinda like shes in a clique or something like that. and shes saying shes invisible to everyone else except the people shes with cause noone can see the real her. kinda like she is lost in society.

Song MeaningI view this song as being about how society wants all to be the same and thus giving us the feeling of being invisible as people. and with a s sense of depression feeling alone and being the complete opposite of what society tells you to be i love the fact thats she says "beneath a cold watching you walk away" because its a sense of being alone watching someone you love walking away from you makes the sun feel cold. then being so depressed you never leave a room because its so much physical to break the walls in you mind. and then feeling like you are sick mentally that you begin to hurt yourself and that hurt the ones you love and you are so used to the pain you can act like you aren't feeling anything and your best friends and family cant even tell that you are hurting i do not like the fact that the lyrics "you never saw it coming you never knew it hit you" are missing because its powerful because she whispers it and its a powerful statement that you cannot help save someone from committing suicide.and i love that she screams "CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?" its really emotion felt that you are screaming to be seen and still no one does. then when she says "this pain can save your life... now do you see?" is about people finding out about the pain someone endure to the point of when they commit suicide then asks now do you see this is what happens to people when they are invisible. her lyrics are really well done as all ways one of my personal favorites because it make you think.

My InterpretationI think the song is a lot more about the relationship between her parents, and how her mother finally realizes that her children were being abused by their father. Even though the verses focus more on her major depression, home life, and rape, the chorus really focuses on her father and how he was viewed by her mother.

The father loves abusing her mother and loves how she spits back at him. And even though the Father abuses the shit out of them, her Mother holds him up to these insanely high ideals only to see it all eventually come crashing down (hold me up to watch me die). The lines “You never saw it coming, you never knew what hit you” is faded in the background because he knows that his wife is going to be so shocked when she finds out, and he’s honestly amused and entertained by that, because it was all “invisible” to her.

But the big thing that really drives this song home for me is what Otep says here:
Behold, Feast your eyes as the peripherals explode.
    Can you see me now?
    Can you see me now?
The ugly will resign/When the young blood eats the light.
And one day/ this pain could save your life.

This is pivotal since it's showing how her mom eventually realizes the horrible things that her father was doing to them. The unimportant/pointless matters (the peripherals) disappear, the Father (the ugly) disappears and resigns from the picture after the truth about the children surface (when the young blood eats the light). And in a way, Otep feels like it's this twisted cycle because it was her mother finally recognizing her abuse and rape that got her out of the situation (one day this pain could save your life).

Even though she realizes that the abuse went on as her mother was preoccupied with her broken marriage, at the end of the song she makes sure not to blame her and actually reassures her, saying it was her who got them out of that horrible spiral of abuse.

All in all, even though it's pretty fucked up, it's a fucking awesome track since it perfectly illustrates the dynamics of a broken home...
