"3 Little Words" as written by and Vincent / Turner....
All you want from me
Are three little words
But you just get me laughing
A quiet sound
I know I'm with you now
But this all might end
So save all the "I love you"s
And let's not pretend

Cause you won't hear it now
And you won't hear it then
I love you, no
Those three words that begin
With three words always end

You can be a little full-on
Cause I know what you need
That really doesn't mean
You'll get it from me
Lying to yourself
Doesn't make it easier
"Save us both the time
Let's be together
We'll be fine"
You say, but

Cause you won't hear it now
And you won't hear it then
I love you, no
Those three words that begin
With three words always end

Cause you won't hear it now
And you won't hear it then, no
Those three words that begin
With three words always end

Plead for time
And you might understand
Feelings have no thoughts
And they ain't got any plans
So don't be surprised
When I look in your eyes
For all I want from you
Is a kiss or two

Cause you won't hear it now
And you won't hear it then
I love you, no
Those three words that begin
With three words always end
I love you, no

You won't hear it
You won't hear it now
You won't hear it then, no
Those three words that begin
With three words always end

Cause you don't know
What I'm talking about
Well you'll see it written
In the clouds

Cause you won't hear it now
And you won't hear it then
I love you, no
Those three words that begin
With three words always end
I love you, no
Cause you won't hear it now
And you won't hear it then
I love you, no

Cause you won't hear it
Cause you won't
Cause you won't
Cause you won't hear it now
Cause you won't hear it now
And you won't hear it then
Those three words that begin
With three words always end

And you know we can pretend

General CommentI think this is about a relationship and the people keep breaking up and getting back together. They don't really understand one another and so one of them has enough of it. And this is basically saying that this is the end of the relationship.

General Commentthey're trying a relationship but he's convinced it's not gonna work and that he's not in love with her. meanwhile she's oblivious and/or holding on to vain hope.

    General CommentI agree with RiotAngel

The music video story doesn't really go with the lyrics though. Its about an amazing pool player who always wins and Vince who is an amazing Pinball player. Basically the pool player looses a game and also looses his fans and the fans move to Vince who gets the top score for the pinball. I was in the music video... it was amazing. =]

General CommentI agree with superfriend. Seems like he knows that this relationship is more like a 'temporary' one until the right one comes along aka maybe along the lines of something like friends with benefits but shes trying to convince herself and him that things will workout and he'll actually fall in love with her.

General Commentit's about a girl hitting on a gay guy.

also, in the chorus i hear

    You won't hear it now
You won't hear it then, no
    We couldn't even start
    Before we reach the end

    in lieu of

    "Those three words that begin
    With three words always end"

    General CommentThe chorus is:

'cuz you won't hear it now,
and you won't hear it then,
    "I love you", no.
    the three words that begin
WHAT (not when) three words always end.

The song is about two people who are friends and clearly attracted to one another, but the singer is hesitant to get into a serious relationship because he's worried it will fail and he will lose his friend. In other words, getting into a serious relationship by saying the tree words "I love you", will inevitably fail and will end with the three words "I hate you" and he will end up without a relationship AND he will have a lost a friend - so he refuses to get serious.

General CommentTo me it's like it's about this guy is in a relationship with a girl, and the girl is very serious about him but he's not the same about her.

And ultimately it sounds like both the girl and the guy are insecure. She wants him to tell her that he loves her, but he can't because he's not serious about her, possibly even letting the fact that their relationship might not last stop him from letting him love her. I feel this way because he goes:

    "Plead for time
    And you might understand
    Feelings have no thoughts
And they ain't got any plans
    So don't be surprised"

Basically implying that there's no point when feelings can change. It sounds like he doesn't want to even make an real effort to 'love' knowing this. So all he wants is to fool around.

My InterpretationThe narrative voice does allow for some ambiguity as to what the lie is that the subject of the song is telling him- or herself: Are they lying in believing that he could fall in love with the subject, or lying in believing that they are indeed in love with him? These possibilities are also not mutually exclusive; there are many ways in which a person might lie to oneself. Is he resistant to saying the three words because he truly isn't in love with the subject or because he fears that the subject is insincere or fickle? In stating that all he wants is a "kiss or two" would seem to indicate the former. However, it is not inconceivable that a person could: 1) be attracted to another enough to desire a physical relationship with another; 2) feel deeper emotions and romantic attachment to said other; and, 3) not trust the other's perception/intention/self-representation enough to feel safe in acting upon the aforementioned emotions in order to seek a committed relationship whilst still pursuing the physical aspect of a relationship.

Will he or she not hear the "I love you" because he refuses to speak it (and moreover, does he resist this action out of integrity and honesty to his own emotions, or is he refusing to speak a truth in an act of self-preservation against a person he sees as untrustworthy?), or will he or she be unable to "hear" it in a sense of listening to his words, understanding and truly valuing his position, and allowing his or her natural defense of self-deception down long enough for another's voice to penetrate this egocentric fantasy?
