Got to face your fear
lying on the floor
Step into nothing, what the hell am I here for?
So come on and play
Stab me in my heart
So long this time was wasted ripping me apart

We are the hurt inside your head
Lost in the void of what is dead
Constantly twisting things I said
Happiness is boring, need pain instead

It's starting over, starting over
Can't stand it's over, God is gonna take me out
My time is over, this time is over
Why is this over? God is gonna take me out

(God is gonna take me out)

Crawling on the floor
All around this space
Talking to myself
What is this thing I've got to face?
Walking through a door
Has it been a waste?
Going on and on thinking I could find my place

We are the hurt inside your head
Lost in the void of what is dead
Constantly twisting things I said
Happiness is boring, need pain instead

It's starting over, starting over
Can't stand it's over, God is gonna take me out
My time is over, this time is over
Why is this over? God is gonna take me out

God is gonna take me out (God is gonna take me out)
God is gonna take me out

You can't see
I'm torn away from you and everything that's
close to me
I cannot face the truth, it's nothing that
I believe
Just run away from me and thank me when you're
free from me
Come take me

Come take me
Come take me
Come take me
Come take me

Come take me (We are the hurt inside your head)
(Lost in the void of what is dead)
Come take me (Constantly twisting things I said)
(Happiness is boring, need pain instead)
Come take me (We are the hurt inside your head)
(Lost in the void of what is dead)
Come take me (Constantly twisting things I said)
(Happiness is boring, need pain instead)

I believe the correct line is: "Lost in the VOID of what is dead"? But then again, my brain could be playing tricks.

This song is about JD's blood disease...best song on the new album I think.

    The Shape is correct.

"Another intensely personal track is “Starting Over,” which was inspired by Davis’ near-death experience with ITP, a blood disease that struck the frontman while on tour in Europe."

I thought it was about suicide too.

This album is quite different from what I can tell so far. I'm listening to it for the first time right now and am only on the fifth track, but it's very different in my opinion from all they've done before. I don't think "Starting Over" is therefore about suicide like a lot of fans are used to. I think it's about JD's disease, part of the time he's freaking out because he thinks he's dying and part of the time he's getting a second chance at life. It's not over yet. Is it just me or does this new stuff sound vaguely like the music that JD did for Queen of The Damned? Kinda darkly mystical or something?

this song is about Jonathan's rare blood disease. "We are the hurt inside your head lost in the void of what is dead constantly twisting things i said happiness is boring (need or me) pain instead" are the lyrics. This song kicks ass

i think it might be bout suicide because of all the lying on the ground type stuff....i think it's about someone who shot himself but didn't manage to kill and is having a dream about starting over instead of killing himself, and realizes he spent too much time "ripping himself apart".then i think he actually dies and gets to the doors of heaven ("walking through a door") and wondering if he's going to hell and his whole lifes been a waste and he's "going on and on thinking he can find his place".after that i get confused but i think God forgives him and "takes him out" of his misery and i think the last parts might be his suicide note or somethin...

sorry if i got it wrong, this is 1 of the first songs i tried to find the meaning of

First of, fuck FR4NCH1SE. This album is superb.

And for the song: After reading the lyrics (and I presume my interpretation will be quite different from what others think), but I think it's starting the album out sort of by saying that KoRn has been through so much shit with Head leaving and even further back with parents fighting against them and trying to steer their kids away from Korn's message.

"We are the hurt inside your head" Possibly them speaking to the parents of the past. They aren't letting up on their message to the world and their fans with this album. They are simply "Starting Over".

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
