I was in amber
Did you see me when I melted down?
Did you see me when I stuck to the ground?
Will you love me when I get out?

I was concreted
Did you see my head stick out the ground?
Did you like me as a statue?
Will you love me when I break out?

I was all frozen
Did you see me as the Encino man?
Did you like me at the Popsicle stand?
Will you love me when I thaw out?

I was held back now
Did you see the rope I tied around?
Did you like me when I was spell bound?
Will you love me when I break out?

Lyric CorrectionCorrection: Did you like me at the Popsicle stand?

I love this song. To me, he's singing to the people who love him about the way he's kept himself numb so he couldn't feel anything, and he's been stuck in a passive, powerless state of being. He was preserved in amber at a certain level of being after a traumatic event, or maybe by addictions, maybe because of fear...but whatever it was, he did it to himself. And he's wondering whether the people he loves will still love him when he breaks out and comes back to life--and whether he'll still love himself.

Lyric CorrectionCorrected "Did you see me as the snow man" to "Did you see me as the Encino man?" in reference to 1992's film of the same name where Brendan Fraser plays a frozen caveman thawed out in 90s California.
