They'll look you in the eyes and stone you,
Then turn and disown you.
Don't you let em take the fight outta you.

They'll walk all over your name
Till they find someone else to blame.
Don't let it take the fight outta you.

Secrets hide their lies
Inside hidden alibis.
Don't let it take the fight outta you.

They put the world on a hook,
It's worse every time I look.
Don't let em take the fight outta you.

I would rather take your punch
Than not give you a shot.
I'd rather find out who you are
Than who you're not.
Should've known better than to mistake business for love.
Should've known better than to mistake a fist for love.

It will be in your 'on' until you're not
Needed any longer.
Don't let it take the fight outta you.

Don't believe the headlines,
Check for yourself sometimes.
Don't let it take the fight outta you.

The lies you live become you,
The love you lose, it numbs you.
Don't let it take the fight outta you.

You say that you've arrived,
That's just a high class bribe.
Don't let it take the fight outta you.

I would rather take your punch
Than not give you a shot.
I'd rather find out who you are,
Than who you're not.
Should've known better than to mistake business for love.
Should've known better than to mistake a fist for love.

There's always someone younger,
Someone with more hunger.
Don't let it take the fight outta you.

They'll say you're one and only
They'll straight up leave you lonely.
Don't let it take the fight outta you.

Like a transplant patient
Waiting for a donor.
Don't let it take the fight outta you.

Like a half empty balloon
After a party in the corner.
Don't let it take the fight outta you.

I love this song, and Ben's music in general. I think the major point of this song is to never feel like your efforts are for worthless. No matter how small an imprint you make on something, never accept that you didn't make an imprint, and never give up.

Whether it's trying to make the world a healthier place, or trying to find true love, I think he is saying just because you stumble, don't stop marching forward.

And the line about taking a punch. He is saying he'd rather you say your opinion even if it completely differs from his, than for you to not give your opinion at all. That's important, eveyrone wants to hear the opinions that go with theirs, not everyone wants to hear the ones that oppose. But that is what life is about, not just people being the same, but the differences.

Great song, thats just my input on it. First post here too :)

yep, people are always going to try to bring you down but you have to keep going and keep your head up or else your life will simply be a passing time rather then something going on. if you're not fighting for something, what's the point?

the tone of this song is that ben has already been down that path and he's giving the rest of us advice about not ending up there

I love this song. For me its really general, people and things will take the fight or the life out of you, i love the line "like a half empty balloon after a party in the corner, dont let it take the fight outta you.....its universal for me its simple and profound and is just about perseverance no matter what the obstacle

I think one of the most great "after bad times" song... bad things only make you stronger.. and you cant let no big or small bad thing get to you to the point that you loose urself... so I just love this song!!

    My Interpretation

I've been a Ben Harper fan for a little over two years and have heard this song several times before. It was this w/e while riding the trails at Alafia State Park, FL that I made a connection to it.

"I would rather take your punch than not give you a shot. I would rather find out who you are than who you're not. Shoulda known better to mistake business for love."

To me he's saying that I need to take the risk of opening up to people even though there is a chance they'll let me down/hurt me. I can't let that possibility take the spirit and power to love (The Fight) out of me.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
