The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
I see your smile in my memory
Writing your songs on my mind
It's hard when you live across the sea
But one day I know you'll be mine
So throw her off the bridge,
Just toss her in the drink
She's coming in between us
You know the girl I mean
It's time we were together
It's clear that I'm the one
So throw her off the bridge
We both know it's got to be done
I traced the words with my fingertips
You're not the face on my sleeve
Maybe you're singing those songs for her
But soon, dear you'll sing them to me
So throw her off the bridge,
Just toss her in the drink
She's coming in between us
You know the girl I mean
It's time we were together
It's clear that I'm the one
So throw her off the bridge
We both know it's got to be done
Writing your songs on my mind
It's hard when you live across the sea
But one day I know you'll be mine
So throw her off the bridge,
Just toss her in the drink
She's coming in between us
You know the girl I mean
It's time we were together
It's clear that I'm the one
So throw her off the bridge
We both know it's got to be done
I traced the words with my fingertips
You're not the face on my sleeve
Maybe you're singing those songs for her
But soon, dear you'll sing them to me
So throw her off the bridge,
Just toss her in the drink
She's coming in between us
You know the girl I mean
It's time we were together
It's clear that I'm the one
So throw her off the bridge
We both know it's got to be done

This song is about Pam's obsession with Stephen; The Pastels singer and guitarist. In Pam's mind the only thing standing between Stephen and her is Stephen's fellow band mate, Aggi, so she has to be thrown off the bridge in order for Pam's crush fantasy to be complete.
Minor corrections:<br /> <br /> Believe the line in section 3 is "Maybe you're singing those songs for her."<br /> <br /> And the last line is "We both know it's got to be DONE."<br /> <br /> Great song, great band, wish some of the rest of their songs were up...
