"Goodbye" as written by and Ulrich Schnauss....
Hello
Now take me home
To the dream
Ever lasts just once

Clouds all around
Take away all my fear
Let me fall asleep

Let me fall asleep

Fall asleep
You know
You have to let it go
Don't go
So hard to say goodbye

She
Woke up on return
Never woke up
He held on beyond one's voice

Felt all secure
Just adored
This beauty, stating
Oh so cold

It was getting cold

Is it cold?
You know
You have to let it go
Don't go
So hard to say goodbye

So hard to say goodbye
You have to let it go
So hard to say goodbye

General CommentI think this song is about suicide. I've worked the lyrics out to sound like this :

    Heaven
    help take me back
    to the dream that
    life has been so ??
    i'll take the pack
    take away all the fear
    and let me fall asleep

    let me fall asleep

    fall asleep

    goodbye

you have to let it go
    don't cry
    so hard to say goodbye

    She will never return
    never again
    be
    heard of
    or her voice?
    felt all secure
    just adored
    asleep
    getting oh so cold

    it is getting cold
    getting cold
    goodbye
you have to let it go
    don't cry
    so hard to say goodbye
    so hard to say goodbye

you have to let it go
    goodbye
    so hard to say goodbye

General CommentThis song is utterly brilliant from start to finish. While some songs have made me cry before, I was usually already in a sad state before listening to it. This one is different, I can't suppress my tears in any way, especially when paying attention to the lyrics. It's beyond my comprehension.

I've been deciphering the song for the past half hour. I think I'm pretty close. In my opinion it's clearly about dying (e.g. after a long struggle, a terminal disease etc.) and accepting it ("take away all the fear, and let me fall asleep").

That's what the fadeout at 2:30 symbolizes. The person who spoke up to that part has just passed away. The next part "She will never return" is contemplation by the lover/friend who was with her in her last moments, saw it happening.

I'm still not sure what the first line of the chorus is. At 3:59 it's clearly not "Goodbye". "You know" sounds possible, but I'm still unsure. I wished that Ulrich himself would chime in to fill in the gaps.

This song wouldn't be out of place at a funeral. Too bad that the lyrical content is so incomprehensible, although the vocoder surely adds to the atmosphere.

Lyrics below: a single question mark symbolizes a missing word; if followed by something between brackets, that's a possible substitution for the question mark in front of it.

    ---
    heaven, hell take me back
    to the dream ?
    life has been; just once
    answer my prayer
    take away all the fear
    and let me fall asleep

    let me fall asleep
    fall asleep

    you ? (know?)
you have to let it go
    don't cry
    so hard to say goodbye

    she will never return
    never again be
    part of what has once
    felt so secure
    ? ?
as it is getting oh so cold

    it is getting cold
    getting cold

    you ? (know?)
you have to let it go
    don't cry
    so hard to say goodbye

    so hard to say goodbye

you have to let it go

    so hard to say goodbye

General Commenthere's what my version.. of course i'm not 100% sure either...
Hello, I'll take me back to the dream
But life has been just once
    Answer my cry
    Take away all the fear
    And let me fall asleep

    Let me fall asleep

    Fall a...
    You know
You have to let it go
    Don't cry
    It's alright to say goodbye

    She will never return
    Never again be
    Part of what was once
    Felt so secure. Just adored
This is getting oh so cold

    It is getting cold

    Getting cold...
    You know
You have to let it go
    Don't cry
    It's alright to say goodbye

    It's alright to say goodbye

You'll have to let it go

    It's alright to say goodbye

General CommentCouldn't find these lyrics anywhere, so I listened very carefully several times and tried to make it out as best as I could.

The lines I'm most unsure of are those that start with 'ever' and 'held', which I wanted to mark to indicate my uncertainty; but I saw that it was against the site rules.

Anyway, apologies if this isn't 100% - it's very hard to make out, as you've probably realised yourself :)

Lovely song though. Not sure I could guess at its meaning, other than what's most obvious... having to let go of a dream you wish you could keep. I imagine most of us have been there...

General CommentWell, I certainly agree that the lyrics are very hard to discern accurately. Sometimes I hear different words! But I am sure that the line you have as "don't go" is actually "don't cry". I will attempt one day to listen and verify the rest of the lyrics for this song. It is indeed a wonderful song.

General CommentThis one of the most beautiful, yet one of the saddest, songs I've heard in a long while. I agree, its very hard to comprehend the lyrics exactly, but I don't think its about suicide. I think its more about a girl leaving a boy who loves her, he knows she'll never come back, and she was his life. Now he doesn't know what to do without her; hes 'cold', in the sense of his emotions. Amazing song.

General CommentI've been so frustrated that nobody seems to have the definitive lyrics for this amazing song. I ended up spending 2 - 3 hours with a graphic equalizer in an attempt to isolate the words from the music. There is some pretty impenetrable sibilance created by the effects on the vocals, but I finally came up with something that I'm 98% happy with. Please respond if you're certain that I have something wrong.

As for the meaning, I prefer not to know the exact meaning as it adds an air of mystery. I think this is probably Ulrich's most beautiful work so far. When I got the album I played this one song over and over for about 3 days!

Here's my version of the lyrics:

    Heaven
    Help take me back
    To the dreamworld
    Life has been just once
    Answer my prayer
    Take away all the fear
    And let me fall asleep

Let me fall asleep... fall asleep

    You know
You have to let it go
    Don't cry
    So hard to say goodbye

    She will never return
    Never again be part of
    What was once
    Felt so secure
    Just adored
But it is getting oh so cold

It is getting cold... getting cold

    You know
You have to let it go
    Don't cry
    So hard to say goodbye

    So hard to say goodbye
You have to let it go

    So hard to say goodbye
