I know I said I love you but I'm thinking I was wrong
I'm the first to admit that I'm still pretty young
And I never meant to hurt you when I wrote you ten love songs

That guy that I could never get, oh his girlfriend was pretty fit
And everyone who knew her loves her so
And I made you leave her for me and now I'm feeling pretty mean
But my mind has fucked me over more times than any man could ever know

Maybe I should give up, give in
Give up trying to be thin
Give up and turn into my mother
God knows I love her

And I'm sorry to whichever man should meet my sorry state
Watch my sturdy, lonesome gait and beware
I will never love a man 'cause love and pain go hand-in-hand
And I can't do it
Again

So we stayed up late one night to try and get our problems right
But I couldn't get into his head just what was going through my mind
Think he knew where I was going, he put Ryan Adams on
I think he thinks it makes me weak, but it only ever makes me strong

I've got this friend who sounds just like him
And he's the man I'd leave you for, the man that I just adore, like you
The same man, he turns to me, he said "I've got to tell you how I feel
If God could make a perfect girl, for me it would be you
And my God told me not to tell about how much do you love your fella?"
I don't know more everyday
Not in this new romantic way

I'll always be your first love
You'll always be my first love

But I'm sorry to whichever man should meet my sorry state
Watch my sturdy, lonesome gait and beware
I will never love a man 'cause love and pain go hand-in-hand
And I can't do it
Again

I will never love a man 'cause I could never hurt a man
Not in this new romantic way

I think 'New romantic' refers to how when we are children we are given the misconception that love and romance will just happen and it will be easy and wonderful, just like in fairy tales. However as she has grown up and experienced love in its true form for the first time ('You'll always be my first love') she realises that it is very tough and complicated which is all new to her because she was never aware of how hard it actually is. So she's seeing romance in a new light and she doensn't like the harsh reality of it, deciding she will 'never love again' because she does not want to hurt anybody in the unescapable way real love will.

I love this song, and her!

She was 17 when she wrote this. There's wisdom in these words.

this song is amazing. it practically sums up my last 6 months.

tome it's about a girl who's having trouble with her boyfriend and knows its not going to work out:

"So we stayed up late one night to try and get our problems right, But I couldn't get into his head just what was going through my mind."

because they're just not getting each other like they maybe once did. And the girl has a friend who has told her he loves her...and she's scared because she's falling in love with him too.

"I've got this friend who sounds just like him, Now he's the man I leave you for, the man that I just adore, Like you. The same man, he turns to me, he said "I've got to tell you how I feel, If God could make the perfect girl, for me it would be you, And my God told me not to tell about how much do you love your fella?" I don't know more everyday, Not in this new romantic way."

But she's feeling bad because she told her boyfriend she loves him and would be with him forever and now she knows she'll leave him for this other guy and break her promise and break his heart

"I'll always be your first love, You'll always be my first love."

Its such a relevant song to my life recently. But I left and now I'm happy and I know I did the right thing. But damn if I'd known this song back then it would have had me in tears every time

She's the same age as me, and generally seems to have gone through the same things i have but i could never write how i felt in such a generally beautiful way.

    she's rad.

I heard the same as BeginningToHope, but maybe we're both wrong.

I think the 'new romantic' way is those modern day romances which don't work in the traditional way. I think she made the guy leave another girl for her, even though she likes the other girl, and now she's feeling guilty because she's started falling for another guy who's really similar to her boyfriend but she likes more now, and is considering leaving her boyfriend for.

this song is amazing. i've been told by my friends that it reminds them of me. and in my mind, it does slightly. the first verse reminds me of my ex boyfriend. it was the very reason we broke up. this song is amazing and is always going to be a favorite of mine.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
