"Winter Is Coming" as written by and Benjamin P Cooper....
I see the winter, she's crawling up the lawn
I feel her breathing beneath my palms

She tears the trees down while curses roll from her tongue
Got eyes like anvils and storms for lungs

Hiding in our house, sunburn in his mouth,
Summer's in our basement now
Light beneath the door, light beneath the door,
Just enough to keep us warm
Don't you let it out, don't you let it out,
Just make sure he's always around

But we're all out of time, nothing left to decide
Pack your things up quick, this one can't be fixed
Leave the rest of it behind

We push through trees now, our house is covered in ice
Our breath falls from our mouths like tiny rainclouds

We tug on Summer, and he melts the snow at our feet
She's on our heels, there's never time to stop and sleep

I feel you breathing, I hear you curse my name
I hope that you'll forgive me one of these days

The sky is bleeding, the fog is thicker than walls
She's wrapped up in it, like cloth on a wrecking ball

Everything we stole, everything we broke,
Everything we bought is gone
A couple dumb mistakes, bigger than we thought,
Nothing to left to do but run
If I could put it back, fill in all the cracks,
Nothing there I wouldn't change
But wishing never helps, wishing never helps,
Wishing never solved a thing

You were right
Yeah, you were right
You were right
Yeah, you were right

General CommentIn a podcast, Ben said that this song is about a man who found out that the seasons were all people. He sensed a bad winter that year, so he kidnapped Summer and kept him chained in his basement. The song starts with the man's wife looking out the window and watching Winter approach, destroying everything in her path, and the song follows their family as they flee.

General Commentthe thing about ben's lyrics is he portrays his message through stories and metaphors that are beyond the story.

for me atleast i think of this as him fearing winter because of how cold and lonely it can be.

My InterpretationI see this song as being about, perhaps, the grieving process, accepting loss, giving oneself up to the inevitability of certain unpleasant things. In this, Winter is the emotions one has in reaction to an event, and the constant clinging to Summer, dragging him with them as they flee from her, is representative of distracting oneself from these feelings, refusing to face them, keeping them at bay. Eventually one's emotions become so intensified, and the false hope and platitudes so weakened, that it overflows and demands to be felt. This, in the end, is worse and far more violent than if one had simply surrendered Summer in the first place and allowed themself to experience Winter as she came in her own time.
