"John's Star" as written by and Bryan Devendorf Scott Devendorf....
I wanted to show you John's star
And lay down with you in strawberry fields
You said, "You're gonna lay down here
You're gonna lay down alone"
I thought I told you I was ruined by the stones

I don't ever want you to come home again
I don't want to hear your call, your voice in my room
I am divine, my arms are stronger than rivers
And when you feel that way, you want to feel that way again
Forever

Once ruined, baby you stay ruined
Yeah, once ruined, baby you stay ruined

Anything is beautiful and I blame you
I woke up in your sheets of rain
And everything you touch around here
You leave a stain

Once ruined, baby you stay ruined
Yeah, once ruined, baby you stay ruined

General Commenti thought it references john lennon too. and the main character's girlfriend is not that much of a beatles fan, but instead she's a rolling stones' fan, because of the line "i thought i told you i was ruined by the stones". the song is actually pretty light and even funny if understood this way. it's just about musical incompatibility. it's only because of his voice and singing that it sounds so grim

General CommentLike kobajagi, I too see the distinct Beatles and Stones references at the beginning, but the rest leads me to believe that was just the beginning of their realization of incompatibility.

Many couples tend to have this fantasy that they are perfect for each other, and once that starts to descinegrate, it can never be recovered. As can be seen in the lines:

Once ruined, baby, you stay ruined
Yeah, once ruined, baby, you stay ruined

Realizing that a person you thought you had a great connection with isn't really who you think they are can be devastating. I just think this song has more to do with than just a couple who disagree about music.

General CommentNice drums, good song. I little bit dark. A couple breaking up, but I haven't figured out yet what's john's star.
