"Friends" as written by and Michael Melchiondo Aaron Freeman....
I dreamt of a move
A great move
To another place with much more land
I was driven by car
And woke before I got there
I remember the place and it was beautiful

A friends a friend who knows what being a friend is, talking with a friend.
As friends we were always so close but so far away...
Friends in life are special do you want me as your special friend?
Cause you're the friend that I've been searching for.

There was more for me
It would be more open
Scary to think that I could be happy
She'd said it was the same road
But up more, a lot more
Just be patient and we'll get there

A friends a friend who knows what being a friend is, talking with a friend.
As friends we were always so close but so far away...
Friends in life are special do you want me as your special friend?
Cause you're the friend that I've been searching for.

I never got there
But the morning brings light
And so, I'll keep on looking.

A friends a friend who knows what being a friend is, talking with a friend.
As friends we were always so close but so far away...
Friends in life are special do you want me as your special friend?
Cause you're the friend that I've been searching for.

im surprised that ween waited til now to dabble in dance music, as its natural cheesiness seems to compliment ween's own camp.
its so upbeat and, well, friendly...they just cram the word 'friend' in to the chorus as much as possible
and i love the german count off in the background before the last verse... cuz everyone knows how germans love their techno!

My InterpretationThis is purely my opinion of what the song means to me as a member of the musical community, I in no way assume that this is what Ween was thinking while they were writing the lyrics to this song.
This song creates an idea that perhaps dreams are not as sparse and meaningless as some may think, and that reality is the greatest pretender of all. The verses describe the dream; a beautiful landscape that was only perceived once in a beautiful moment of serenity with the people he loves. The chorus, while a parody of techno overuse of the friendship theme, is also connected to the absurdity of life itself, trying to chase after meaningless things like money and success while putting up the front that everything is going well and as expected. The last lick is the man saying that maybe someday, he will find this feeling and place in reality if he looks and tries hard enough.
