When I think that I'm over you
I'm overpowered

Your data, my data
The chromosomes match
Exact as in matter
A matter of fact

These amaranth feelings
A cognitive state
Need the love object
To reciprocate

When I think that I'm over you
I'm overpowered
It's long overdue
I'm overpowered

When I think that I'm over you
I'm overpowered
It's long overdue
But I'm overpowered

As science struggles on
To try to explain
Oxy-toxins flowing
Ever into my brain

As science struggles on
To try to explain
Oxy-toxins flowing
Ever into my brain

A chemical reason
If reason's your game
A chemical needing
Is there in the brain

With pre-programmed meanings
Like a little more pep
Alien feelings
We have to accept

When I think that I'm over you
I'm overpowered
It's long overdue
I'm overpowered

When I think that I'm over you
I'm overpowered
It's long overdue
I'm overpowered

As science struggles on
To try to explain
Oxy-toxins flowing
Ever into my brain

As science struggles on
To try to explain
Oxy-toxins flowing
Ever into my brain

I'm overpowered

This song makes reference to recent discovery that homosexuality is a genetic/scientific characteristic that humans are born with.

"A chemical reason If reason's your game A chemical needing Is there in the brain

With preprogrammed leanings Like a little more pep Alien feelings We have to accept"

    • is probably the clearest and less crypic passage of the lyrics to highlight this.

the chorus makes reference (possibly) to a character in this story, who is only recently coming to terms with thier sexuality. perhaps a gay fling has occured (see verse 1) and the character is finding it hard to repress their homosexual feelings, hence being Overpowered by them.

Or it could be, y'know, a playful response to the claim that love is just a series of chemical reactions and electrical impulses in your brain.

further to my previous comment, i dare argue that: "your data my data the chromosomes match" would be another refrence to the chemistry of homosexuality, in that, "our gay chromosomes match"?? ahhhh... eh?

"when i think that i'm over you, i'm overpowered, it's long overdue, i'm overpowered". classic case of homosexual repression...

the references go on and on. so so clear to me what this song is about

also, i think its "with pre-programmed leanings"

Love is not just a chemical process, that what roisin wanted to say. And this theory that this song is about being gay is also interesting. Anyway, I just wanted to inform you that on one site lyrics go like this: ''You're dating my daughter The chromosomes match''

    • isn't this funny?

She's overpowered opposed to the illusion of being "in love" , a chemical needing, like the amfetamine substance (pep) does act in the brain. The illusion of real unconditional love...

I used to think that the character in the song had (inappropriate) feelings for a family member, like a cousin.

'Your data my data The chromosomes match'

She might have had a crush on that person when she was a child/teenager, and is surprised that she still feels the same way.

'When I think that I'm over you I'm overpowered'

Usually pheromones prevent us from falling in love with a family member, but it's not impossible.

'As science struggles on to try to explain Oxytoxins flowing ever into my brain'

This song is about a great relationship that really was meant to be according to the singer. And she just can't get over the fact that it is over. She just wants him back. She tries to explain it to herself (science) to get a grip on her feelings but her thoughts are swiped away every time by feelings of love. Or love-hurt actually. She wanted to have his babies (oxytocin), but she can't and so these feelings change in oxy-toxins, they hurt. It's long overdue, it became an obsession as in PTSS. Great 303. Can listen to this song forever.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
