"The Hill" as written by and Jack Steadman....
We look at the summer sun yellow and round,
So we go out to the hill and we lie down,
All but one sits in the corner,
Trying to find a way,

And alright lets go outside,
And rise, rise, rise, to the meaning of life,
And we're trying but we're all falling out,
I want to go back to old times,

Looking back looking out at different things,
We flew to high let the sun burn our wings,
We never thought it would be us,
Let it all come fast, turn to dust,

And alright let's go outside,
And rise, rise, rise, to the meaning of life,
And we're trying but we're all falling out,
I want to go back to old times,

And alright let's go outside,
And rise, rise, rise, to the meaning of life,
And we're trying but we're all falling out,
I want to go back to old times,

Say what I know,
You keep it low,
If I give you my word,
You keep it

Say what I know,
You keep it low,
Your shit,
I keep in secret

Say what I know,
You keep it low,
If I give you my word,
You keep it

Say what I know,
You keep it low,
Your shit,
I keep in secret

And alright let's go outside,
And rise, rise, rise, to the meaning of life,
And we're trying but we're all falling out,
I want to go back to old times,

And alright let's go outside,
And rise, rise, rise, to the meaning of life,
And we're trying but we're all falling out,
I want to go back to old times,

General Commentthink this song is about youth slipping through your fingers.
the band are from north london, so the hill referred to might be hampsted heath where everyone lounges on the hillside on summer weekends.
also makes me think of kites...'flew too high' , 'rise rise rise', and time slipping through your hands like the kite string.
i love BBC. they capture youth so brilliantly.

Song Meaning"We flew to high let the sun burn our wings"
I love the allusion to the myth of Icarus and Daedalus. If you don't know the story, wiki it.

General CommentIt does feel like lost youth; or trying to recapture something that cannot be found again.
Quite mourning and a little sad although you dont get that feeling
The repetition may signify the regret
'I'm trying but we're all falling out,' may signify old friends growing up and friendships failing

All the same, it's a fantastic song :)

General Commenti think it is about the years before you fully grow up where you want to do something special with your life "and rise rise rise to the meaning of life", but they rush onto it and end up falling out with each other.

General CommentI think this song perfecty fits into people's thoughts when they are in their last year of college and they're about to leave and "rise, rise, rise to the meaning of life". They're "all falling out" because they have started to become more selfish and started thinking about themselves in the future, i.e. their goals, ambitions. This can be shown by the fact that the writer mentions that "looking back, looking out are different things" because they look back to reminisce about the fun they had as a group of friends, and look out to the future. They are different things because one gives a sense of happiness, whereas the other is filled with uncertainty.
The writer longs to "go back to old times" and everyone can definitely relate this- as the writer wants to go back when it was all easier and fun i.e. their childhood, but they are now becoming adults and this is hard to face up too.
The writer says "we never thought it would be us" meaning that they as a band never thought they were the ones that were going to make it big.

I think this song perfectly captures what 18 year olds are facing- changes to their lives and not seeing their friends again.
