"One Step Closer" as written by Richard Sambora, Jon Bon Jovi and John Shanks....
I've seen my heart of darkness
Let's just say I crossed over that line
Held hands with the hopeless
In too deep on that ride went around one more time

When you're standing on the edge you don't look down
Till you're ready and willing to fly

Now I'm one step closer
With my arms open wide here
I'm one step closer
And I'm willing to try this time

I hitched a ride with forgiveness
In that river of emotion I went down a third time
I spent the night with the living
Took a chance looked inside didn't know who I'd find

Standing on the corner of that lone goodbye
All alone, it's there I made up my mind

Now I'm one step closer
With my arms open wide here
I'm one step closer
And I'm willing to try

I'm sick of giving up
Ooh, with a little luck
I'm gonna get out of here

When you're standing on the edge don't look down
Till you're ready and willing to fly

I'm one step closer
With my arms open wide here
I'm one step closer
And I'm willing to try this
I'm one step closer
I'm one step closer

General CommentPerhaps this song is about how you have accepted that you have been going down a bad path (be it a relationship, crowd you hang with, or not being honest with yourself) and you feel ready to try to get better again. You have tried to get better before and you didn't succeed in doing so but now you are ready and willing to try again. You are sick of giving up. This time is your best chance to get better.

General Commenti can so relate to this song.
its saying how you feel soo down, so crap you wanna throw yourself away, but you can only do that when you're 'willing to try'. its a paradox in a way, you have to fight to win, before u can give in to losing.
it's so inspiring, saying he's been down and out, but he's gonna fight first. :)

General CommentAt one of the Prudential Center shows in 2007, one of the few times they've ever played this live, Jon said it was a hard song to even talk about, let alone play. I don't remember his exact words, but he did talk about Richie Sambora and how bad he was hurting, and said that they were getting through it together. It was incredibly sweet, and Richie went over and hugged him.

Incredible performance. They played the entire Lost Highway album that night.
