i thought you were my best friend
we'd be together til the end
in all the world i'd never find
someone like you, you understood my mind
you felt my heart, with all your heart
and you kissed my mouth
you took your time
i thought you were mine
i thought you were mine
i thought you were mine
those seeds we planted in the spring
refuse to grow
and now, now we have nothing
nothing in our hearts
and nothing in my belly
what once was
cannot be made
i'm afraid
it's too late
but i know it's true,
there's no one that you're loving
i take back my heart
and give you my blessing
your light will shine
oh you may be in darkness

    General CommentI adore this song.
I believe It's about thinking someone was entirely yours "I thought you were mine." and then discovering it isn't all happy days after all. Their relationship refuses to grow and now she doesn't feel any love for him. I think the "nothing in my belly" may be about not feeling 'butteflies' or excitement when she sees him anymore. She takes back her heart and tells him she's happy he's moved on, that his light will always shine even when he's in the dark because once he was her light.

    * Your light will shine though you may be in darkness.
