"Are You Ten Years Ago" as written by and Tegan Quin Sara Quin....
[Chorus]
If you're taken I am yours
I'm up and doing circles
I'm taken, I am yours
I'm up and doing circles
I'm taken, I am yours
I'm up and doing circles
I'm taken, I am yours
I'm up and doing circles

I collapse
I might stay out longer than I left the light on for you
Then if you show, you show
If you show, you show

When I feel like this
When I get so into myself
I lose track of where I'm going and lose track of how to get going again
I feel myself slowing down
Feel myself turning around
Is this taken?

When I feel like this
When I get so sick of myself
Where are you going now without me
And not knowing then, that we're slowing down
You've gotta turn that around
And tell me that I'm taken, tell me if I'm yours

You collapse
The pressure of this life is so
You can't be held accountable
If you go, you go
If you go, you go
When you act like this
When you get so sick, of yourself
The whole world falls away and since I feel
Like I have only missed the feeling that I'm here again
The feeling that I'm clear again
I'm not taken

When you act like this
When you get so into yourself
I lose sight of common goals
And letting go so I can be all alone
Feel myself, going slow
Feel myself, letting go

Not taken, not feeling like I'm yours

[Chorus]

I collapse
This life looks like a sentence, though
A constant game of falling short
If you know, you know
If you know, you know

When I feel like this
When I'm just so sick of feeling less than perfect
Is it right for me
I never fight to see if coming clean would get to me
I feel myself, holding back
I feel the pressure, it's finally back
I'm taken

When you feel like this
When you saw it call come crashing down
Subtle but not underground
I was there
I saw the signs, I saw unfair
And so I write to you through other means
I let myself finally feel taken
Like I was yours

If you're taken I am yours
I'm up and doing circles

I'm taken, I am yours
I'm up and doing circles

I collapse
I collapse
I collapse

General CommentThis song states all the reasons why an in-between relationship on/off again should end. I'm using it as my anthem right now. It fits everything I feel and what is happening. I love Tegan and Sara.

General CommentI'm like a couple of people here, I really didn't like this song or "Like O, Like H" for the longest time. I have to say they grew on me. I adore this album. I think it's one that you have to listen to a lot to understand completely. I also think you have to listen to it from start to finish, well that's what happens when I go to listen to a single track anyway...

General CommentIn their first Seattle concert this month, Tegan introduced this song by saying "I wrote this song when I was 25, so by 'Are you ten years ago?' I was asking myself, 'Are you 15?'"
So I gather part of it is the frustration of immaturity in the relationship.

General Commentwannabesluts, I felt the same way at first. But after listening to it 50,000 times (okay, maybe I'm exaggerating), it really grew on me. It's kind of haunting, and it's fast-paced, and it just really grows on you. Give it another shot.

Something that never grew onto me, though, was "Like O, Like h". Just never got into it. Oh well..

General CommentI think that the meaning to them is probably an on and off relationship. But to me It's just being in a relationship in general. I keep talking with alot of girls and they keep trying to get me to trust them but I'm bad with the relationship thing. They feed me with compliments until I feel like I'm theirs and then because neither of us technically asked each other out I'm always right about to ask them out when they start dating someone they've been talking to for about a week if that. I keep going on circles because I keep doing the same thing with different women. I keep going back and forth with trying to better myself as a person and go after everything I want and trying to love someone but all of them are just looking to be saved and I want someone who is whole by themselves, but I feel so messed up because I seem to be the only one who won't give in to desperation and let who am I go just so I won't be alone. I know they didn't mean it in the way that it fits me, but I love this song because it fits me perfectly.

General Commentmaybe an on and off relationship where even through the moments of fighting and being "off again" you're still emotionally taken although you feel like you're alone and whanot... "I'm taken I am yours, I'm up and doing circles." "Not taken, not feeling like I'm yours..."

doing circles was waiting and contemplating the entire situation but then collapsing is just letting your guard down and being commited

General CommentThis is my favourite song on the new album... well, one of the many favourites :P I can totally relate to the lyrics, although it means something new to me each time I listen to it.
