"Tell Me Where It Hurts" as written by Shirley Ann Manson, Bryan David Vig, Douglas Elwin Erickson and Steve W Marker....
What is my day going to look like?
What will my tomorrow bring me?
If I had X-ray eyes, I could see inside
I wouldn't have to predict the future

I wish that you would do some talking
How else am I to know what you're thinking?
If only people would say what it really was
What it really was, what it really was that they wanted

Tell me where it hurts and to hell with everybody else
All I care about is you and that's the truth
They don't love me, I can tell
But you do, so they can go to hell

Did they ever give you a reason
To believe in something different?
If you're looking for love, for what it's worth
I've plenty of it lying around here somewhere

If you are looking for disappointment
You can find it around any corner
In the middle of the night I hold on to you tight
So both of us can feel protected

Tell me where it hurts and to hell with everybody else
All I care about is you and that's the truth
They don't love me, yeah, I can tell
But you do, so they can go to hell

I've been loved but I didn't know how to feel it
And I've been adored but I don't know if I ever believed it
I've been loved my whole life but I didn't know how to take it until you

So tell me where it hurts, to hell with everybody else
All I care about is you and that's the truth
They don't love me, yeah, I can tell
But you do, so they can go to hell
But you do, so they can go to hell

Tell me where it hurts
Tell me where it hurts
Tell me where it hurts now

Tell me where it hurts
Tell me where it hurts
Tell me where it hurts

General CommentA theme song for me.

The song just bursts inside of my chest and makes me feel bright.

"If only people would say what it really was
    What it really was
What it really was that they wanted"

How I love that part. And how I wish it really was like that.

My OpinionIt feels like the song is talking about the dejection you feel when you want to belong somewhere but it keeps going badly.
About when you try to get close to people, but you can't guess what's inside of them, so you just keep getting hurt by them.
But at the end of the day you have someone important to you, and suddenly everyone else just doesn't matter anymore because that one person needs and loves you more than anyone.

General CommentAwesome new single. I don't think it will do well with radio/TV play, but it's amazing all the same. Garbage has still got it, and judging by the video for this song, Shirley doesn't seem to age. She looks like she did in the Version 2.0 days!

Anyway, to me, the song sounds like it's about a lovers friends/family not accepting her into their lives, and it seems to hurt the lover, but the person singing doesn't seem to really care because they love this person enough to make up for it.

General CommentI am in love with this song. Garbage is one of the greatest bands as well as Shirley being among the best female rock stars.

As for the meaning of the song, It's hard to explain them with words. The video gives off a certain feeling different the song on it's own.

    I love it!

General CommentWell guys it took me a long time to figure what this song and video is about:

Shirley is a whore trying to fit in with the other whores and in doing this she tries to find a man that would allow her to be like them. When the man hits her she poisons his drink and kills him. But still brings him to the gatherings with shades and a wheel chair and cares for him without care for what other people think.

Now watch the video again and you'll see... pay attention to the black eye and the guy dead on the floor with the spilt drink =D

General CommentIf she killed him she would have put him in a body bag, not a wheel chair. The video is based on the movie Belle de Jour - look it up.

As for what the song itself is about, I agree with what simplycomplx said.

General CommentIf you listen to the lyrics, especially the chorus-- it sounds like what a whore would say to a man she'd be selling herself to.

General CommentFor me this song is about facing your fears with the help of someone you love. Most of us self destructive types are in pain fom something we are afraid of. Tell we what it is, we can face it together, if your just after sex you can find that anywhere.
