This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
do you see a burden
could've sworn it's here
makes me bend down forward
makes my face down in my beard
have i told that story
so stop me if you've heard
seems the whole world finds it boring
how i hang on every word
at first you were beside me
then you were across the sea
i can't make out your features
you're in another galaxy
at home with other life forms
that are nothing like me
oh, here you are beside me
well, forgive me in advance
the better crowd denies me
so i melt into this glass
at first you were beside me
then you were across the sea
i can't make out your features
you're in another galaxy
at home with other life forms
that are nothing like me
could've sworn it's here
makes me bend down forward
makes my face down in my beard
have i told that story
so stop me if you've heard
seems the whole world finds it boring
how i hang on every word
at first you were beside me
then you were across the sea
i can't make out your features
you're in another galaxy
at home with other life forms
that are nothing like me
oh, here you are beside me
well, forgive me in advance
the better crowd denies me
so i melt into this glass
at first you were beside me
then you were across the sea
i can't make out your features
you're in another galaxy
at home with other life forms
that are nothing like me

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
