It takes a lot of money to look this cheap
It takes a lot of time to lose this much sleep
It takes a lot of help to get to this point in your life
Where you smile and say, "Oh well"

The bigger they come, the harder they fall
Feeling so fine, coming so small
It's me and my head, it's us against them
In this life where things are destined to end

And now that your home for the holidays
Will you finally settle down?
Things will well up, then explode
If you don't let them out

It takes a lot of hurt to feel so good
When you're finally there
You see all you should have felt all along
And you'll finally see what you're doing wrong
Life can go on without me
Make your plans accordingly
Plan to be great
Plan to succeed
Plan to live your life full and be happy

The bigger they come, the harder they fall
Feeling so fine, coming so small
It's me and my head, it's us against them
In this life where things are destined to end

And now that your home for the holidays
Will you finally settle down?
And everything comes down for a reason
There's reason, it's all coming down now
Soon you'll see you know as much as anyone...
Anyone around
Soon you'll see you don't know your big swollen heart
From a hole in the ground
But look what you found
Your smile's a seed
Planting love in everyone you see
But don't turn around
No, don't turn around
Cause you're not lost
Unless you want to be found

And this is how I had to die
With a gun in one hand
And the other a fist full of sky
Yes, this is my plan
That prevents me from wasting my life
With one fatal blow gravity goes goodbye
I have finally found the meaning of life
It's been screaming so loud
I swore it was a sign
The sign's been so clear
I thought I lost my mind
I quit while I was ahead
And just miserably behind
Cause the nightmare of life
Started to feel just right
And the ocean of pain
That swims in my brain
Made me know it was time

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
